Pardon me for my ignorance, but I have 99 Sonata V6 with 72,000k and
recently the light on my dash that says a door is opened has turned on
but all doors and trunk are closed. Also, the air bag light has turned
on about a day later.  Any guesses?

I had a similar issue with my 2001 Elantra.
Turns out the airbag wiring has a plug under the console.
If you EVER spill a drink into the cup holder or around it, it will
leak throug and get the connection wet.  Increases the resistance and
the computer thinks the airbag is defective.
If you are able, pull the console and wrap the plug with waterproof
tape,(after you dry the plug and clean it)   The real rubber kind not
the regular electrical tape.
Once it's dried out you shouldn't have the problem again.

you might need a new air bag ecu for it if it is anything like my tibby. I
went to advanced auto and no readings come up from it. The light has been
on since i had my gauges changed out and tacho installed. Hyundai told me
there is an ecu for the air bag, as for the door light, you might have
bent wire or  the sensor for the door is jacked up

Sounds like two separate issues.

For the door ajar lamp, you could have a broken or shorted door switch.

For the air bag lamp, you should take the car to have the system checked.
Also check with your dealer to see if there are any open recalls.  There
was a recall on your car to modify the side air bag wiring, which may not
have been done yet.

On my elantra the air bag light came on and they had to replace a sensor
under the passenger seat.  Even after replacing it it came on and i found
out it was just not attached tight enough, i reattached it and it hasnt
come on again.  Something to check out maybe.
