hi we bought a used 2003 accent a few months ago(remember the keyless entry posts)it has been working flawlessly since then with almost 15,000kms put on in that short time. the car has 55,000kms on it just over 30,000 miles. my daughter called me from her work to tell me that the car was shifting funny. what happened is she was driving along and the car seemed to go into neutral(shift flare???)reved to 4-5000rpm ,she stopped and restarted the car and all seemed normal. it has done this occasionally for the last 3 days. there is no check engine light or other flashing lights on the dash ,so i presume no codes were set. i checked the tranny fluid and it is full and looked and smelled fine. would anyone have an idea where to start?in the absence of any codes this seems like a hard problem to diagnose. i also drive the car,but only for short distances(5km)she drives 30km to school and work,it has never done this with me driving. i have no idea if the tranny has been flushed or changed,but with the low kilometers i would assume that it has not. thanks as always jeff > hi > we bought a used 2003 accent a few months ago(remember the keyless entry [quoted text clipped - 20 lines] > thanks as always > jeff I'm having the same problem with my 06, have you discovered a reason/ solution? The code I pulled from it was P0734 "Gear 4 Incorrect Ratio". In both cases, you're most likely looking at an internal transmissio failure. P0734 indicates a slippage. Since this is described a "shifting into neutral," it sounds unlikely that it's something as benig as a shift flare-- that's when the rpm's raise slightly at the beginnin of an upshift. Slip codes typically won't set i the slippage is for just a short period of time. Still recommend taking it to the dealer. They should have someon proficient at this sort of diagnosis, and, in my experience, will b unlikely to sell you a reman tranmission if it's not needed.
