Took my Elantra to a local independent AAA-approved shop for an oil change
and he told me everything was ok except I need the engine mounts replaced.
Car has 75,000 mi. He quoted me $833. This shop is in Phoenix, AZ. He claims
most front-wheel drives need new mounts after 3 years or so.  True? Does the
price seem reasonable?

Sounds like the guy who wanted to sell my son a $1500 brake job.  As
Click and Clack would say "He has big boat payments".

Nope, not true.  Most front-drive cars *do not* need new motor mounts afte
three years or so.  Of course, on a ten year old car, the rubber could b
cracked or broken.  If there's no specific problem with a mount, don'
replace it.  There's no sense in performing unnecessary preventive repair
on a ten-year-old Elantra.  If a problem develops with a mount, you ca
replace the one with the problem at that time.

As for the price, it's hard to say.  Your car has four engine/tran
mounts.  If the price is for all four, that's probably a reasonable price
