Maybe Santa will bring the Webtv dweeb a service manual, and someone to
read it to him.

Funny, everyone has AN answer, but not the right one!

Funny you think that three besides you constitutes "everyone".
Pull the lower hose, that's how the pros do it. Even if there's drain
plug/petcock, chances are by the time you need to use it it's better
off untouched whether it looks brand spanking new or is simply a nub.
If there's not much crud, the radiator (and the jacket inside the
engine above the water pump)  will be empty in less than 30 seconds,
if there's enough crud it can't drain out by then, buy another
radiator.
CBX2@webtv.net - 26 Dec 2008 15:40 GMT
FINALLY, a legitimate answer.  Is the lower hose the one on the bottom?

Yes. Take the cap off, it'll drain as fast as it can come out the big
hole.
Of course, you might get a hose before you start, old hoses tend to
stick pretty hard on the outlet, sometimes you have to cut the old one
off.

Oh no.  I wish I had known to have a hose handy when I drained the water
because as you said I had to cut it off.  I thought because it's so cold
it wouldn't hurt to drive to the parts store which is less than 5 miles
from me to get a new hose.  I was WRONG.  It over heated quickly and now
the motor knocks badly.

I finally got the new hose on and filled it with anti-freeze.  I will
drive it until spring when it's warm enough to change the oil.  That
should make the knock go away.

You really are a troll.  Or really stupid when it comes to things
mechanical.

I vote for both in this instance.

Original hose?  I'd not put an 8 year old hose back in place. Too many
possibilities of things going wrong when you least expect it.  Hoses and
belts should be changed out about that time no matter how many miles.  They
become brittle with time. .  A radiator shop that does my oil changes never
uses the drain petcock, always replaces the bottom hose.
