I don't know if this is an 'endorsement' but I believe Corvettes
come with Mobil 1 as the factory fill. Perhaps some other marques
also?

Yeah, lots of them. Many new models come with synthetic oil in the
crankcase and synthetics are required for warranty purposes. This
doesn't apply to Hyundais, but that doesn't mean that it's not beneficial.
Additionally, synthetics do not have to be much more expensive than
"dinosaur" oil. Super Tech Full Synthetic from Walmart is only $11 for a
5 quart jug. Independent oil lab tests indicate that it's every bit as
good as other synthetics.

Really? That crappy wal-mart super tech is as good as the top syns? I
may look at it next oil change.

There's nothing "crappy" about it or any of the other Super Tech oils.
They're blended by a reputable company that does oils for several other
brands. I recently saw an independent oil lab analysis of the ST
synthetic that showed it had the same type of base stock and additive
package as several "name brand" synthetic oils. The conclusion of the
lab was that it was equivalent quality to other synthetic oils.

Also the VW's with the TDI engines suggest syntho oils.

You mean GM with the 'Vette coming from the factory with Mobil 1, or
Mercedes, Ferrari, Masserati, Rolls Royce,
Bently, VW, and at least two others who ship vehicle with synthetic in
them. I guess that isn't an endorsement huh......
