Hi folks,
just thought I'd report yet another screwup by the local Opel workshops
who are the official reps for Isuzu Troopers here in Austria, where the
truck is rebadged as the Opel Monterey. The left front (disk) brake on
my '99 Trooper siezed yesterday after I'd had metallic brake noises for
a couple of weeks. Its been a severe winter so I assumed there was ice,
filth etc gunging the brakes, didnt take it seriously as my truck is
serviced regularly, now this.. Cost me €1140/about $1400 just to fix the
front brakes! I only do about 10K miles/ year, so the wear and tear on
the brake pads must have been obvious at the last service about 5K miles
ago, right? -thats assuming they even looked .. Anyone know if these
workshops are liable for such negligence? I've already had a lot of
hassles after that last service (it was a different workshop BTW) such
as misdiagnosed starting problems which cost me a new battery
(unnecessary), a windshield that was replaced, not glued in and almost
fell out on the highway, not fixing the Airbag light on the dash, etc.
Now I'm waiting for some 'surprises' from the engine. Reckon I'll get
the local AA to check her thru first.

For some reason Opel dealerships have always caused me trouble. They are WAY
overpriced, and have screwed up more than once on Opel Frontera (aka Isuzu
Rodeo) I used to own.
FWIW there are tons of Chevrolet-badged Troopers on roads in Latin
America... wonder if we're in wrong newsgroup? ;)
