Hi everyone, I am new to this but I need help!!!
I have a 95" Isuzu Rodeo and it is not running right.  It will crank and
go in rev. but when i put it in drive it shakes. When you press the
accelerator it will go and the transmission will shift. It goes from 1st
to 2nd with no problem. Then into 3rd but once in 3rd it loses power and
will not accelerate even when the accelerator is to the floor. Now for
under the hood: the air fliter cover pops off after the engine heats up.
(like to much back flow) I also have gas in my oil and both gas and oil
are leaking from the driverside valve cover. I had a diagnostic test done
but nothing showed up. I have replaced the following: spark plugs, fuel
filter, transmission filter/fuild,and oil filter/oil. The timing is also
correct. So if someone can help me please do!!!!  Thanks, Grease-Monkey

OK, Grease-monkey, we'll try to help you, but you have to let us know a
little more information:
1. How many miles are on the truck?
2. Are you the first owner, or did you buy it used (do you know the history
of the vehicle)?
3. Did this just start all of a sudden (like one morning it started) or did
it gradually get this way?
4. Has the truck ever been hot/overheated?
5. How much gas is in your oil? how do you know? Just from the smell, or has
the oil level gone up noticeably?
6. Who did the "diagnostic test"? How did they do it?
7. Are you still driving the truck or are you letting it sit until you
figure out what's wrong with it?
8. Has anyone worked on the truck recently for any reason before this
started?
9. Have you installed any electronic equipment (stereo, CD player, etc) just
before this started?

Let us know these things and we'll try to figure it out with you.

Hi Green Gas, well I am not the first owner of the vehicle and i do not
know the history of it either.  The problem just started all of a sudden.
The vehicle did over heat about a year ago and it was do to the water pump
so i replaced it. I can smell gas in the oil. I toke the vehicle to an auto
repair shop to have the diagnostic test done but they found nothing.  I am
not driving the vehicle it is parked until i get it fixed.  No one has
worked on the vehicle in a year and i have not installed any electronic
equipment. Thanks for getting back to me!  grease_monkey (Summer)

I'd check a couple of things - check for a plugged up exhaust system, which
will occur if your catalytic converter/s self-destructs (they do!). Any
competent (independently owned) muffler/exhaust system shop should be able
to help you out - they may charge you a little for the labor, but it would
probably be money well spent. You could also simply drop the exhaust system
down a little at the exhaust manifold and if the engine runs properly (
besides being very loud), you'll know that you have a plugged up exhaust
system. That's what I think this problem is.
Second, run a compression check on the engine - to ensure you don't have a
cracked cylinder or head. Normally, cracks in the head or cylinder will let
water into the oil or oil into the water, but you never know. The only place
fuel can get into the oil is in the combustion chamber, and the only way
that can happen is if you have broken rings, which you may have. I worked on
a van, years ago, that had been run in Mexico. It had a catalytic converter,
but they ran leaded gas in it, and plugged it up solid. They kept running
it, and ended up breaking every pistion ring in the engine, simply due to
the back pressure. I hope yours is not this way, but it bears checking out.
If the compression is low, or uneven throughout the engine, consider going
further on this issue.
Hope this helps. Let us know.
