A "campaign service" sounds like something you pay for.

No

Wasn't that only if it failed in the warranty period? Please let us know
what happens.

They hummed and hawed, said they'd look into it.
Got a call back saying mine had been recalled in 2000 and the work done!
I don't remember this being done but I need to go into my records to
know for sure..
Anyway, it still starts badly so they checked it and said it needed new
plugs. The clumbsy oafs from Opel managed to snap the back plug off when
they removed them! So at the moment the whole engine has to be taken
apart to try and drill the plug out from the inside. A right proper
f*ckup if you ask me.. The moment I heard it was not a warranty job I
should have picked up my Trooper and got it checked by someone that has
a clue about diesels.

The so called "Service Campaigns" that Isuzu were doing were done on a
routine service. They were not "recalls" as that would imply that the
repairs were of a serious nature, and without them the car would be
dangerous. If you contact Isuzu by telephone and ask for "Isuzu Customer
Service" 01215572112 and give them your registration number, they can check
on their records to see if the repairs were carried out. They are service
campaigns IZ04 and IZ06, it includes a Turbo replacement, injector sleeves
and an oil strainer, and they are all free of charge! I spoke to Adrian Hogg
at Customer Services, and he was great.
Hope this helps you

Thanks very much for that, Michael. I phoned Isuzu Customer Service on the
number you gave & spoke to Steve Gledhill. He says that there are three
relevant repairs. These are:
IZ03: Replacement injector sleeves
IZ04: Replacement turbo & oil strainer
IZ06: Fitting injector sleeve backup O-ring.
In my case, it is complicated by the fact that I am not the original owner
of the Trooper. It previously had a personalised number plate which the
original owner took with him to his new vehicle - also an Isuzu Trooper -
and they found both vehicles on their database. Mine has already had IZ03
done but needs IZ04 & IZ06 doing.
I can confirm that I also was told that these repairs are all free of
charge, which is nice!! Steve said that sometimes dealers do the repair
without telling the owner. I guess it's going to be worth anyone who owns a
Trooper with this engine getting it checked out.
Thanks again - now I know why I bother reading newsgroups. :-)
Cheers

IZ06 is no longer being carried out as the replacement injector
sleeves incorporate the seals. The back up seal originally fitted, was
not a success, this is why the sleeves are being replaced now.

I do not believe my 98 Trooper has had the modification. Is there any pint
in doing it at 63K miles. How easy is it do ?

I would have thought that there is every point, if it is done by an Isuzu
dealer free of charge!!

The modification is only for a certain VIN range and is only for Euro
II engines (pre 2002 model year).
There is a special tool required to do the replacement and is not
advisable to be carried out outside of the Isuzu network as these
engines have a mind of their own at the best of times.

I don't think it is going to be that simple as my Trooper is a Cyprus import
into the UK, anyone any experience of this.
