help 88 tropper tranny troubles

any one have any idea what controls the shift points in a 4 speed auto.My
tranny wants to shift at 4500 to 5000 rpm and doesnt slip.It acts just
like a vacuum modulater problem but it doesnt have one.

Did you power wash--pump--the trans?

I had the same trouble. One way is to go to a junk yard (here in canada
it's "Pick your part" and get a trnsmission computer from a Toyota
cressida or a supra that has an auto with O/D (10 bucks) it is located
under the dash or in the center consiole. On the trooper its under the
dash on the driver's side. They are all an Aisin 340 variant. Plug it in
and see how it works. Also, check all of the transmission speed sensors.
If one is not working the computer just shifts at a pre determined rpm.
