Congratulations to the Jaguar team for their 2nd place finish in the latest
JD Power Initial Quality Study. Jaguar scored 88 faults per 100 vehicles,
finishing right behind Lexus at 81. Unfortunately for Jaguar, due to small
sample size the XJ sedan was not included in the tally. Had it been Jaguar
would have tied with Lexus for 1st place. (The IQS measures owner concerns
in the first 90 days of ownership and is considered the most significant
measure of vehicle quality for the auto industry.)

The Jaguar engineering & manufacturing folks deserve a big BRAVO for this
accomplishment, coming as it does amidst the incredible management fiascos
going on within the organization.

Showing just how crazy things are for PAG, the Land Rover dumb a.ses at
Solihul managed a third-from-last finish. I suppose this should be
considered an improvement, they usually finish dead last.

Actually, Power doesn't measure vehicle quality again until 3 years in
service. (Called the "Vehicle Dependability Index", or VDI.) This year's VDI
study will be on the '02 model year. Jaguar sucked eggs last year, since
they were primarily measuring the '01 S & X-Types. A major cause of angst
for the industry,  perenial IQS winner, Lexus, also is a perrenial VDI
winner. Lexus often has fewer faults per 100 cars after three years in
service than many other brands do in 90 days.
