Hi Folks
I'm between-cars at the moment, having previously been a big fan of
Land Rovers, due to the amount of road milage I'm doing I'm
considering something more appropriate, and Jaguars have caught my
eye, in a big way.
Questions..
1, a 3.2 X300 1995 has caught my eye, are there any known problems
with this model that I should check for?
2, I prefer to do all my own maintenance and servicing at home (I like
to get to know my cars and I'm on a budget), is this realistic with a
Jaguar (I have zero experience of them).
3, Can anyone point me to any good internet resources? I'll have a
good search through google but direct recommendation is preferred.
3, Any other model recommendations? I do alot of motorway miles, need
space for three kids in the back, I like something a bit lively, must
be reliable, reasonable fuel consumption on LPG, I'm in the UK, budget
of £5000gbp.

Space in the back can be a cramped, especially if you have long legs -
but it should be OK if the kids are young.

I stumbled upon that website yesterday but did not have the time to
dig deeply, it seems an excellent resourse particularly as I've not
seen any service manuals for sale anywhere for this model.

The kids are young teenagers, I'll see how the legroom looks when I
test-drive.

Hi Mark, Snap !!!! I'm thinking of exactly the same - I recognised you from
the LR forum - I'm looking at a 96 -98 XJ 3.2 V6 local LPG place says you
can put a single pint on em with no hassle ( Quoted £1100)
I'm thinking of doing away with the boot to have a large tank - I would
like more range than I've got with the Disco V8 -

Let me know if you find anything interesting out, I was also considering a
Volvo V70 T5 but they're bloody expensive for the year!!!
I would like to know if there are any issues with the Jag engine/box as the
Volvos are bullet-proof

Hey Steve :oD

I'm just looking at space for LPG, I understand there is a spare wheel
well under the boot floor that'll take a tank and I'm happy to lose a
load of boot space for another tank, the idea of long range appeals to
me.

I'm currently trying to find out how much longer the LWB version is, I
assume the length is given to the reat passengers as it looks a bit
tight in some of the photos I've seen.

I'm also considering the 6 litre v12, 18mpg but no big deal on LPG,
insurance group 20 though, off to get a quote now.

Some Jags use the ZF auto box a-la-range rover, not sure which yet
though.

Yea, My heart says V12 or Supercharged V8 but my head says 3.2, add
LPG to the setup and it'll make for an ideal machine for the long
distances I'm doing, hard to believe I was doing the same trips in my
1984 110 before it went to Nige.

A couple of new questions, I can't get clear answers to.

1, are the headlights seald beam? and if so are the bulbs halogens?
approx 1996 x300.

I have read references to standard and LWB bodies..
2, how much longer is the LWB?
3, is that length all given to rear-seat passenger legroom?
4, are the LWB bodies the same size fore of the front anf aft of the
rear axles?

I'm currently considering a V12 running on LPG having found that the
insurance will be affordable.
4, is this an efi engine?
5, are the tyres an issue with this much power? (premature wear,
expensive replacement etc)
6, these vehicles are RWD?
