Car is a 97 XK8...you know how when you open/shut the doors the windows move
a few inches? Well mine will go down when you open the door, but won't go
back up when you shut it. I knew that was a worthless feature waiting to
break. What's the problem and how much to fix it at a main dealer?

Dont worry, BMW has had this junky feature for years; its typically is
fixed by sucking money out of your billfold. Think as yourself as a
patriot keeping your nations economy strong by continually repairing
your car. Just think of all the jobs you secure by keeping your car
repaired.
Besides, if you really wanted to be a patriot, by a new car every two
years.
(Written sarcasim intended to inform people about corporations and
government that support shoddy products in the name of economy and
continual spending. Just wait until "we" pass laws to jail people that
dont spend enough money each month. Sounds as silly as laserbeams huh?)

This happens when you disconnect the battery; window memory needs to be
re-programmed. Roll the window all the way down and hold the switch
down for a couple of seconds (you should hear a click). Then roll it
back up and hold the switch up for a couple of seconds (another click).
That's it, you're done.

Usually a sign your battery is weak. Replace the battery, then do the
window reset. Raise it all the way up, hold the button for 10 seconds,
release.
