Hi i just bought a 1987 Jaguar xj6-and guess what? It needs a head
gasket replacement-there is oil in my coolant overflow. Is this real
expensive and can a non-jaguar mechanic do it without having to be
British trained? Another question-the XK engine-how many hundreds of
thousand miles are these engines good for before they need to be
rebuilt?

Not too difficult if you have some mechanical skills. But if you are
allergic to wrenches ask a mechanic that you know and trust. A dealer will
charge you more than the whole car is worth.
I had an 88 and 89, and those little 3 litre sixes are good for 200,000
miles or more if kept up.
