Are there two types of drive shaft for a 1990 xj40 i have been in touch with
a breaker and he has quoted me a price of ?72 for this item as he says their
are two types one with ABS and one for non-abs cars. as far as i am aware
their isn't a non abs version. I think this is a bit over priced for a lump
of metal with a universal joint at either end.

cheers

Hiya Jon,

I thought they were all ABS,
Check on the JagLovers web site to be sure

The 1990 and early 1991's had a driveshaft and center bearing
combination unique to those cars. When the center bearing needs
replacement on those cars, jaguar wants you to buy a whole driveshaft
assy, since they don't sell the center bearing for that car.
Many people will put in a later driveshaft and center bearing
combination. Maybe thats what you are experiencing, part numbers for
both years.
ABS or Non-ABS the drive shaft should not make a difference. There are
no ABS pickups on the driveshaft.
Also, the only place I know of selling the Center bearing is Coventry
West in Atlanta, Georga.

Cheers

Dave

Jon,

Take a look at http://www.sngbarratt.com/catalogue.html it may be able to help.
The pdf pic for the propshaft only shows the one type. This page is also a
useful source of part numbers and assemblies.

Rgds,
Nige.
P.S. Doesn't the CD help (I don't have mine to hand to check!)?

I have used the CD quite a bit but it does state that it is for the 2.9 and
3.6L variants
as mine is a 4.0 i asume that some of the parts may be different.
Eventually i have actually purchased from another supplier for ?30
whichdoesn't seem too bad after all.

so nearly finished with re-inserting the Diff only one wheel station to
complete then back on the road hopefully. by the way does anyone want to buy
a knackered diff with about half an inch of freeplay on the input shaft.

cheers

Hmmm... a knackered diff with a mile of freeplay.... very tempting but I'm
trying to give them up!! Aren't all the shafts the same irrespective of
engine size as the g/box is in the same position so the distance from g/box
to diff should be the same ('cept for the S3 LWB models)

Anyway, the pdf files on sngbarratt.com are very useful and I would suggest
that anybody who reads this downloads the files for future reference.

Have fun!
