New to this group.  Own a 2000 XJ8 and it needs a set of tires.  I
live in the Chicago area but have accepted the fact that the XJ8 is
going to be a pain in the winter.  With that in mind I want to buy
tires for th 355 days a year that there is not snow on the road.
Roads though in the Chicago area are often wet.  I do find myself on
the expressways (very early in the morning) pushing 100 mph.  So I
want to make sure I am getting the correct tires for the need.

Also, brakes are starting to get low.  Can you cut rotors on an XJ8?
In addition anyone know if I can get ceramic pads for that car?
Getting rid of the brake dust would be awesome !!

Please advise...

Can't help with the tires - I'm still using the Pirelli's.

I just did the front rotors and pads on my '99.  Replaced the pads w/ Ferodo
and replaced the rotors rather than turning them.  There's not much
thickness to start w/ on import rotors.  Total cost w/ shipping was $175.71.
Much less than the $550 quoted by the dealer.  Ferodos do not squeak and the
brake dust is nearly nil.  Factory pads are Jurik.

Play around on this site:

 http://www.tirerack.com/tires/SearchTires.jsp

select the tire size... for each tire, you can click on a link of
buyers' opinions/rating of the tire.

Here's a link to the same site, but searching on your car (click the
"survey results" next to each tire to view it's buyer rating summary):

I put the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S (all season) on mine and like them very
much.   It's a Z rated tire and comes a bit cheaper than the Pirellis.
