Hi
I tried both and decided on a 2.5 (SE not sport, due to the extra toys)
After reading various opinions I wasn't sure that it was worth it after
buying, then it went for it's service and I was loaned a 2.0.
After that I was sure that the 2.5 was much better to drive (maybe it's the
4 wheel drive) but it seems to sit better on the road
and goes a lot better, not just initial acceleration but mid range pickup
for motorway work (which I do a lot of)
I'd also recommend a manual rather than auto box as I found that the auto
2.5 I tried lacked so much power over the manual.
So that clinched it for me. I've never tried a 3.0 so I can't comment there
and I don't pay for my own fuel so all I can say is that the 2.5 isn't bad.
On a motorway run I'll get somewhere around 32mpg, dropping to about 20
round town ,but then I'm not light footed :-)
By the way the sport is not sportier than the rest of the models except in
looks, I initially liked the sport but the creature comforts inside swung
me towards the SE....now if the sport had been more powerful/faster etc....

P.S I'm in my mid thirties so I'm Jag's target market!

Thanks, this helps a lot, just come back from test driving a 2.5 SE estate,
very nice!
Can I ask, on the motorway, what's the best MPG you have had from your 2.5?
I also do a fair amount of motorway driving but I have to pay for my fuel !!
Thanks Again Pete
Les
PS Also mid thirties so yep Jag's target as well, and I drive an Alfa 156
Selespeed as well, when it goes and bits are not dropping off it!!

3.0 Sport in Jag racing green.
MPG is around
19mpg in stop start traffic
30+ taking it steady on open roads.
23mpg driving quite briskly (hard)

Sounds about right - only ours is Phoenix Red ... =8^D
We don't see the 2.0 or the FWD (is there a diesel, too?) in the US.
The 2.5 is not much more than adequate with an autobox; OK with a
5-speed. The 3.0 5-speed AWD Sport is wonderful.
