It's that time again, after spending aeons of time doing loads of little
jobs to the XJ-S, I've got to the point where I can't be arsed anymore. [1]

Spec of the car for lurkers etc

'91 "H"  XJ-S 3.6 Sport Automatic.
Oyster [2] with doeskin leather interior
mileage unknown but believed to be 75-80000 miles [3]
Anti lock brakes, alloys, ABS, Air Conditioning [4], all the usual gubbins.

It's the last of the line 3.6 engined ones, they were 4.0 very shortly after
this was made.

Good bits

Oil pressure is excellent, 50 lb ft at tickover, 70-75 lb ft when driving
(warm)
Air conditioning works, which is very bloody unusual on one of these.
Stainless steel exhausts
Interior is excellent (bar the centre console veneer)
4 speed auto box
No diff noise etc
MOT til Feb 05, tax til end June or July '04.
Capable of 30 mpg
Rear wheel drive

Bad bits

Rust on back arches, and o/s/f wing
Paint on roof and bonnet crazed. Late 80's early 90's XJS's seem to suffer
from this.
Handbrake is useless, and it's got inboard rear discs
Electric aerial doesn't work.
Cig lighter doesn't.
N/S electric window is tempremental, but if you give the door a gentle clout
it springs joyously to life.
Normally only manages 18-22 mpg [5]

Pics of it

I don't know what to do with this thing really, whether to just keep driving
it and spend the money on the little annoying jobs like the handbrake,
window and aerial and get the paintwork and bubbly bits sorted. The values
of XJ-S's seem to be on the up at the moment, even shagged out A reg ones
are fetching ?600-700 on eBay, so it's got to be worth more than that. Main
problem for me being too many cars at the moment, although I'd probably swap
it [6] for an XJ6 or similar big old Luxobarge.. I've always quite fancied a
735 or 750 BMW.

People of usenet, I await your comments / flaming / piss taking with baited
breath.

[1] I like it, but now I fancy a change.
[2] Yeah, I know, it's Jewish Racing Beige
[3] Handy for limited mileage policies, the speedo works, the odo doesn't.
[4] An older Jag with working Aircon. Very rare!
[5] Which is 9 mpg better than the Merc
[6] You never know, I might even throw in some money

BMW 7series seem worse than the Jags and are more expensive. There's a 740
in Liverpool I know of personally that is up for about ?900. It's on it's
second engine, 3rd gearbox, electrics don't work properly, dash is cracking,
heater fan squeals and you have to take the dash out to replace it, drivers
window only worsk when the door is open. Been serviced regularly but it's
oneof the worst drives I've ever had.

I'd keep the XJS until a good 750i turns up for the right price.

It's been decided, the XJS must go, it's a shame because it is quite a nice
one, but I'm just not an XJS kinda guy. Jags yeah, XJS - not really my
thing.

Just got to find someone who'll give me money for it quickly.. This week
would be nice.
