I just bought a 1989 JEEP Cherokee Limited 4l. Auto, there is a button about
1" square on the front of the console storage box,
it's original equipment, the box interior is molded to provide a cavity for
the switch.

I have no idea what the switch is for.

There is also a Power/Comfort switch is on the dash, I assume that changes
auto tranny
shift settings?

The Power/Comfort switch changes how aggressively the transmission shifts,
which also affects fuel economy.

Thanks everyone, yup the mirrors do actually jiggle a bit when you play with
the button, they don't actually work properly.
I had a Ford with the same symptoms, I don't think I'll bother trying to fix
them.
