I have a 1996 Jeep Cherokee that makes a loud screeching noise whenever
the clutch is depressed. I thought this was the only time it made this
noise, but we had the hood opened the other day and it was making the
noise in much smaller increments without depressing the clutch. Does
anyone have any idea what this could be? It's very loud and very
embarrassing. Other than the noise, it's running fine.
Thank you,
Dave Smith

Sounds like the clutch throw out bearing. This is a bearing attached to the
clutch fork that depresses the pressure plate.

The throwout bearing is worn out and needs to be replaced.
You will haveto pull the transmission.
