Kate - 08 Apr 2006 21:46 GMT I know a few of you here (the gals for certain) have named your Jeeps.
I'm just curious, would ya'll mind sharing? Maybe the story of how your Jeep got it's name.
Actually, I think it would be a cool website project. A photo, the story, photo with Jeep and Jeep's pet person.
I've been trying to decipher "who" my Jeep is since I picked "him" up in Missouri. I thought of this name on the way home and dismissed it but it kept coming back to me and this morning while cleaning the bugs off his face it came back again. I figured he was trying to tell me something.
"Jack" Like a male mule - strong - stubborn - dependable - surefooted and sometimes a tad unpredictable.
and here I was looking for something SO much more complicated than that.

After the movie monster. I had rolled it on black ice 4 months after I bought it . Jan 15th 1997. I hate that day. The body shop replaced every thing on it. So hence the name. When I sold it and bought the 87 she got the same name. and like the monster every thing has been replaced engine, tran, tran case, And it is a she. When every I have a date she'll act up and not run right or something breaks.

Ajax White Knight - Clad in silver armor and mounted on a white steed, the Ajax White Knight galloped valiantly down neighborhood streets zapping dirty laundry with his magic white lance (a potent Medieval phallic symbol) to the tune of "Stronger than Dirt." First featured in a 1963 TV spot for the Colgate-Palmolive Company, the "White Knight" (called by the industry the worst campaign of that year) went on to become one of television's most successful. The Norman, Craig & Kummel Agency who devised the Ajax White Knight campaign had a similar success with their "White Tornado" concept in 1962. The inspiration for the White Knight campaign originated in a dream that the ad creator, Joe Sacco had one night. He saw a nightmarish world of housewives trapped in dungeons filled with dirty laundry, unable to escape the drudgery of daily routine. This dream gave him the idea for creating a savior who would steal them away from that realm of soiled clothing, a liberator who would unleash them from those tedious household chores. At first a figure of Sir Galahad was considered, but later a nameless White Knight character was chosen to reflect the cleaning potential of the detergent. There was a follow up "Name that White Knight" contest but it was a dismal failure. The White Knight campaign ran successfully for five years.
Huh... so did the Name that Jeep campaign - so he is Ajax.

Both of our rigs are white. I like that, they look good in the driveway that way.
Coasty - 09 Apr 2006 11:36 GMT Well, my first jeep was called Mud Dauber it was an old CJ5 we used when I was a kid on the farm. We used it for snow plowing, running the fields, getting groceries, fishing. We called Mud Dauber because it did not have floor boards and you always got covered in mud.
The first jeep I owned was a 76 CJ7 and I called her Buoy Butt it was a Coast Guard thing.
My son and I restored his first jeep a 79 CJ7 about 10 years ago he named it Crystal after his girl friend now his wife. I painted it British Racing green and it really looked sharp and it was the only color of that type for 3 counties. Then a new water tower was built in our town and they painted it the same color as his jeep so I started calling it Water Tower he was pissed.
My 04 TJ is called Damn The Bad Luck, it seems no matter where I go I pull some one out of a ditch, give them a jump, watch others sit in mud up to their axles, or others just do stupid stuff and I kept saying Damn The Bad Luck, well it stuck.
My wife's 04 WJ is called Goldie because of the color. Coasty

: My wife calls her Libby "Lil Jeepy" : : Ed : > I know a few of you here (the gals for certain) have named your Jeeps. JD Adams - 09 Apr 2006 18:47 GMT 'Pet names' for cars are always interesting. This white/grey horse is named Hidalgo, mainly because we go anywhere and neither of us gives a damn what others say about it. 'Charlene' my last trophy-car was so named because of her firery-red temperment and because she was always getting me into trouble with the Law. Typical female.
I once owned a clapped-out 1968 Dodge Polara that I named Max, The Road Warrior. It was an old ex-CHP cruiser equipped with an old 440-ci V-8. It was spray-painted, had no reverse gear and only got 3 miles per gallon. $100 cash bought him for commuting to/from work in a very bad neighborhood. Someone shot at it one night, hitting the radiator; he completely bled out as we roared out of Mao-Mao Land; the engine siezed and he had to be scrapped because of that. Sad to see him go. But he got me home in one piece, so it was worth the effort.
The big truck's name is Blue. Don't know why. He just told me one day that this was his name, take it or leave it. Yes, machinery speaks to me. Few know how to listen anymore.

I had that 95 GT. Her name was Baby. She was like the car in Christine. I have a whole long story about that car, pretty eeerie actually but it's too damn early to try and type it all out

I've wanted a Jeep since I was 15 and had a crush on MacGyver. So when I finally got my Jeep in '99, I was trying to call him "Mac" in honor of the show. But every time I said his name it came out with an "s" on the end. So he very quickly became "Max"...

It didn't when it got the name. I think the name came from my brother-in-law who had the first race jeep which was a '74 CJ-5 he sold that (which he's still kicking himself for) and bought a '76 Harley Sportster (which he sold because he needed the $ and he's kicking himself even harder for). I yanked the 258 in mine which never ran very good and sure never had much snort. A few years a go I put in a 360 along with some other motor goodies. BTW, it's an '84 CJ. Same or better mileage too. Pete

Lets see... the Cavalier, is just that, the "Cavalier" (or that god damned car).
My sisters Mustang is B-Stang. Her hubby's Subaru is Scrappy. His Willy Wagon is currently called Erk.
Freinds Rabbit is Cutecar (her screen name is cutegirl). His volvo is "The Wagon", Peggy is the '33 Chevy Pickup, the 60 Vette is just the Corvette, the Blazer was the Bla$er aka Bea, the vintage pontiac wagon was the Boat. Harvey was the VW wagon. I cant remember all the others, there was a Sciroco named Brock, some other wagons, a Chevy Nomad who's name I cant recall, etc. All had names, most of them fitting.
My jeep was named by committee... between the guys at work and my freind (above) with all the cars... mostly because I didnt ever wash it when it was new (still dont), I figured if I wheel every weekend or two, whats the point, besides I live in an apt and he doesnt like us to wash cars here very often? I kept getting asked at work when I was going to wash that mud ball, and pretty soon the name stuck.

Now it's name is Whimpy (like from popeye) because no matter how many hamburgers you feed it it is still gutless up the hills do to it's 3:07 gears in the front and rear.
Once I change out the diffs then I will probably call it Sparky

sc00ter - 12 Apr 2006 14:56 GMT WEEELLLLL-
Picture if you will a 6'1" 250 guy built like a fireman (former occupation) going about 35MPH on a kids Razor Scooter and crashing.
2 Weeks before I started the Law Enforcement Academy I was in Raton NM visiting some friends and my daughter had one of those little razor scooters. I decided to go for a ride. As I was riding down the hill (street) my friend passed me on my daughters bike (from when she was 3) Well I could'nt have that so I hunched down to decrease wind resistance and lower my CG, but BUT I leaned back too far and wiped out, Broke 2 ribs and had some good road-rash.
So everytime I would laugh during the first part of the academy it would be like HAHA OW! HEHE OW! HAHA OW! HOHO OW! HUHU OW! HAHA OW! ......
It stuck

Steve G - 13 Apr 2006 05:56 GMT Well, ive had my CJ5 for almost a yr.. been really thinking, but you may have noticed on the Frapper site..it has a dog(Mack) on the hood. Im leaning towards either "Mud-Dawg" or just "Mac".. this summer of riding will confirm the name im guessing as it will be my first "wheeling" summer in it.
My wife actually bought me letters to put on the window to spell "Money Pit" but i couldnt do it!

Kate - 16 Apr 2006 15:10 GMT This is in a park in Paris Tennessee. We found it while Geocaching Having a GREAT time! It was a really neat park with a fitness circuit, and across the road some nice hiking trails. I couldn't hike to get to the cache that was back there, so I - ehm - tool the Jeep *sheepish grin* I went gently, didn't leave a mark, got my cache find and snuck back up onto the highway.
There weren't any signs that said no jeeps allowed
