Hi Folks:
I first started this topic in Sep. 2003.  I've only today, Dec. 29,
2006 gotten to this because it failed inspection for the pointer not
lining up.  For the benefit of anyone trying to align their shifter,
I'm going to post some pictures on my website
http://www.harryhydro.com/jeep/index.html . The plastic collar that is
on the top-side of the metal braket has a 'drawer' that slides out.
There is a little slot that a flat-blade screw driver can be inserted
and used to slide open the 'drawer'. This squeezes the other plastic
shaft that holds the cable. You might be able to do this through the
opened end on the metal bracket, as it aligns with this.  I had to pull
the bolts holding the metal bracket and pull it down (not much room) to
see this.  I hope this helps anyone trying to fix this.  There were no
replies to my old posting.

Congratulations, you must be the first person on the group to ever do
that fix.  :-)

Your website links are broken by the way so what 'flavor' of Jeep is it?

I take it is is an automatic also?
