Cherokee seat removal help needed.

Mike Romain - 07 Mar 2007 18:04 GMT Well, the government jerks are insisting they are going to steal my 87 Cherokee because I haven't finished doing a needed engine swap to get it on the road, so I am going to strip it.
It's a 4 door with working power windows if anyone in the Toronto Canada area wants parts. It has 4 of those 5 spoke Aluminum rims in decent enough shape.
Got it boxed in real good right now...
Had to call the cops on the government goons on Monday because they insisted they could go into my garage and steal 'all' it's contents like my camping and fishing gear, tools, Jeep parts, etc., because the door was broken open! The cops put a stop to that long enough to get the door half closed and chase the jerks off.
I asked the cops if it was illegal to paint the one fingered salute on my garage door for the enjoyment of the new 32 story high rise that just went in across the street and they said no, it's legal, go ahead. :-)
So enough ranting, I want the nice bucket seats out of the Cherokee for my CJ7. These are the 87 version of the manual adjust wrap around buckets and fit me nice.
I can't bend well to get in there and spot all the fasteners and was hoping someone else knew if I could get the seat track off without unbolting the whole works from the floor. There are 'sort of' rusty nut stubs left on the bolts that go into the floor, but it is 'very' unlikely they will unbolt there.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

Snow - 07 Mar 2007 18:23 GMT Those four studs you see are probably the best and easiest way to remove the seats. If you have a Dermel tool you can get your son out there to cut the studs off, then lift out the seats. I'd stop by and give you a hand but my ribs are a little cracked (snowboarding with the kids). If the dremel wont work then try a socket with big breaker bar and try snapping the studs by over tightening the nuts. Its too bad i got rid of my XJ last summer, I could have taken parts from both and made a decent shaped XJ.
Snow...
P.S. I'm waiting to see the "flip'n the bird" painted garage door too show up on City Pulse News :)

I was going to plate this one, but it needs an engine and complete clutch system and our daily driver, the engine donor also needs a complete clutch system.
We thought about it and figured it isn't worth putting $500.00 into either of these Jeeps for parts right now.
We want to take that and buy one 'with' a working clutch and preferably intact rockers. Floors I can deal with...
So I will be stripping a second one soon likely too....
Know anyone selling a Jeep?
Mike
abomb69 - 07 Mar 2007 19:41 GMT I'd get me a shotgun with some double 00 buck shots and take care of them government pricks when they break into the garage. Put no trespassing signs up.

I just went to the garage and looked at them. The best way is to unbolt them from the floor. I got mine still bolted to the frames. And as i see it you have to go up and under to get them off the track. The guy i got my seats fro gave me ever thing even the back seat. I plain on selling ever thing but the front seats on e-bay. 87 YJ 33" 2.5 47 Willy's stock 50 Willy's pickup stock

That's a new one to me. Isn't there a way to tag the vehicle as being not-drivable or under-repair? I can see going after the tag for lack of insurance, but never heard of the goonsquad going after a vehicle being repaired. Sure they were legit and not fakes?

Sure they were legit and not fakes? I could only tag (plate) it with 'parking' insurance if I already owned it and it was already plated in my name. Unfortunately that means emissions and safety first so it has to be a runner.
I am getting my 'money's worth' of parts from it at least.
And ya, they were legit, we live in a 'Very' Snooty city, Toronto Canada, very British roots. We didn't toss the tea unfortunately... You must have a 'pretty' house too. The j.rkoff even wrote up reports on some rust on the front step railings and a kid's tree house that has been there since 92 for being 'too tall'. And he wrote 'us' up for the neighbor's crooked fence too. I told him to screw off on that one also.

Hell, my neighbors here think they own the street.
Can you "register" it as an off-road vehicle? I'm assuming you are parking off-street.
I'll send a handsome Int'l money order for a nice glossy of your garage-door-opinion...
Dave Milne - 10 Mar 2007 11:26 GMT Fortunately we don't get either residents associations or the government stealing our cars. You can have as much rust on your railingas as you like. As for a fence, it can be completely blown down.
This brand of Naziism you imported from your US cousins - don't blame us for that !

Mike is not jokeing
Things are tough in Toronto, but much worse in rural Ontario where I live. The government is sending out the black vans (full of guys with spacesuits) to shut down rural sawmills because they are creating TOXIC sawdust.
They want Ma and Pa bakeries to submit their recipes with a checque for about $2000 per recipe for government approval.
Do you want another 100 examples of government run amok? I'll send you the info.

Time for the Toronto Song! by Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie
I hate the SkyDome and the CN Tower too; I hate Nathan Philips Square and the Ontario Zoo! The rent's too high, The air's unclean, The beaches are dirty, And the people are mean! And the women are big and the men are dumb And the children are loopy 'cause they live in a slum! The water is polluted and the mayor's a dork! They dress real bad and they think they're New York. In Toronto, Ontario, oh-oh! <snip>

I love the lyrics, I gotta hear the song.
I remember when the Mayor and council voted to ban the Barenaked Ladies from performing at Nathan Philips Square.
The Barenaked Ladies became a huge success in Canada, but does anyone outside of Toronto remember the name of the mayor or any of the councillors? What a bunch of self serving and out of touch dorques!

Brian - 10 Mar 2007 01:57 GMT I don't get it - by what authority can the government confiscate your personal property? Is that Canada, or the People's Republic of China (which just now recognized a limited right to private property)?

Mike Romain - 10 Mar 2007 15:22 GMT Having an unplated vehicle is one thing, but the Jerks are also saying that a private garage is also 'public domain' if the door is open so they can just walk in and steal it's contents apparently.
It is kinds funny how fast the crew ran away only leaving the boss when I called the cops though.
Now the j.rk off boss wants to charge us the crew's 'waiting' time until the cops showed. The crew wasn't even here and I have the cops as witness. :-)
I can't get out of this a.shole city fast enough I'll tell you. We were ready to go 3 years ago when I got smucked up as a passenger in a car accident. When that gets settled, we are soo gone....

The crew wasn't even here and I have the cops > as witness. :-) Did you get his contact information so you can discuss with his supervisor what trespassing is, and what damage they did to your garage? Emotional stress, pain and suffering, all those words that cause lawyers to drool.
Don't forget the local paper and news. Lots of times there are reporters looking for a good public-interest story. ;)

You can carry unconcealed and holstered. If you draw and use it be prepared to justify your actions. Vermont allows concealed carry with no permit. The concealed carry permit for Arizona is easy to get if you're not a convicted felon, mentally "challenged" or here illegally. They give a two day course at the local J.C. Permit good for at least two years maybe four. No requirement to register a weapon in either state. And say what you will about G.W. but he signed the bill that allows me to carry as a retired L.E.O. with no restriction by any state or local government as long as I qualify once a year.
