Hello. My brother owns a 96 Laredo with an automatic trans. 4wd. 4.0 engine. Does this have a dual tps? Would this cause the engine idle to drop and stall, as well as prevent it from shifting out of first gear? He recently power washed the engine. Any thoughts?? Thanks, Greg > Hello. Would this cause the engine idle [quoted text clipped - 7 lines] > > Greg It just has the regular TPS sensor. drop and stall can be a dirty IAP (Idle Air Passage) and crudded up IAC (Idle Air Controller). http://revbeergoggles.com/tb/tb.html Usually a toothbrush to clean the throttle body, around and under the throttle plate, then slowly spray TB cleaner into the idle air passage. Might have to do it several times, spray, then run, then spray, then run, etc. One note of caution. Never run the motor with the idle air motor removed from the throttle body, the pintle will shoot out and you will have to buy a new IAC. Greg > What about the not shifting out of first gear part. It was fine > yesterday. Check the transmission fluid level. Most Jeep transmissions are real touchy when it comes to being low. Also check to make sure it's not milky, powerwashing can get water into places it should not be. I prefer using degreaser and a garden hose on low just for that reason. Idle problems can also cause shifting issues. SignatureDougW Yes, you do have a dual TPS and the classic power wash symptoms. WD40 is the best for this, it will displace the water in the plug and socket of the TPS connection.
