It was parked for a day and a half and then would not start. When
jumped it started but immediately died. The mechanics at the shop
I use are going nuts trying to locate problem. They have elect power
at every place it should be but it still won't start and keep running.
They have checked alternator, injectors, crank sensor, fuel pump
(pump was replaced 30 days ago).
They are detecting a small drain on battery that they have not been
able to locate as of yet.
They do say the distributor is worn but don't think that is causing the
problem.

Any one have any ideas? It has 125K on it.
Rob Mills

PS, I did notice a bit of roughness in engine just before I parked it but it
wasn't real bad.
L.W.(ßill)Hughes III - 26 Mar 2008 00:23 GMT
Hi Rob,
If you have a sentry key, and not using it, but the other you key you
made for the door. that bad key will cause the engine to run for about five
seconds before it quits, Or it's fuse is blown.
If not, go ahead and replace the CPS:

ensor/

That is the problem on ninety nine and nine tens of the no starts.

On an otherwise nice day, Bill (Mr. ED) Hughes lied:

If he can understand that, he's a bloomin' genius.

Learn English, Billieboi.

You don't know anything else, so why not?

And how do you know he is using another key, anyway?

Do you think the mechanix wouldn't already have considered hat?

You be real dumm.

Bill offered a reasonable thing to try, all you offered was your usual
drivel, do you even HAVE a Jeep?  Have you ever even RIDDEN in one?
Have you EVER posted ANYTHING on this newsgroup that wasn't a dig at Bill?

Well, Doug, I am light-years from your basic anything.

But please do <PLONK> me. I'd really appreciate it, actually.

For a dumb 7-year-old maybe.

Ha!

I'm a car guy, and even as a child, I never played with toys much. Of
course I don't have a jeep. Why on earth would I? I have no desire to play
in mud.

>  Have you ever even RIDDEN in one?

Many times. Sadly.

> Have you EVER posted ANYTHING on this newsgroup that wasn't a dig at Bill?

Actually, yes; I guess you weren't paying attention.

Besides, what else can one do with Bill? Praise him for continually
spamming groups in which he never participated?

> Good God man, get a freaking life!

Jeffery, me lad, I have so much of a life, I virtually have lives. I'm
well-established in several areas far beyond cars, which is merely a love
of mine.

Simply <PLONK> me and you'll be far less distressed.

And I'll feel better that I'm not annoying you needlessly. I simply want
to slam Mr. Hughes, which he richly deserves.

coil, wires, rotor, cap, and plugs?
ASD relay (automatic shut down).

Generally when the 4.0 refuses to start and has roughness it's the
CPS sensor going bad.  CPS sensors are hard to test and even look
"ok" even if they are not.  But for certain if it's dead the engine
will not start.  Sometimes just removing/cleaning/reconnecting the
sensor is good enough.

If your battery has developed a bad cell, it will act like that.  They
newer Jeeps won't run on a punky battery.

What codes does the ECM give? They did get the codes right?
