Websites for preview of 2009 Wrangler?

Hang_Traitor_Democrats - 06 May 2008 12:34 GMT We are thinking about buying another Wrangler (Unlimited X) since the wife wants power windows and locks and has wanted them for over 20 years on her Jeep.
Trying to decide if we should buy a 2008 or wait for the 2009s. I am holding out some hope that Jeep will make some improvement in gas mileage on the 2009s (probably fat chance). In any case, the rebates that Jeep is offering stink on the 2008s right now so there is no real incentive to buy a 2008. Might as well wait for 2009s.
I have looked and have not been able to located any websites that show and discuss previews of the 2009s. Anyone know of any websites that I can go to that can give me an overview of what is coming on the 2009s?
Hang_Traitor_Democrats - 08 May 2008 11:53 GMT No relies. I guess that's why I could not find anything either. I guess to be on the safe side, we'll just wait for the 2009s.

Kate - 08 May 2008 13:03 GMT I know you may have your heart set on a new Jeep, but if the only thing that's making you spend all of that money is power windows and locks, they have conversion kits for those you know. Not that expensive either. Been thinking of the window conversion m'salf.

There are 3 excellent sites for what you are looking for, but as a former Amurrican Democrat and currently a philosophical one, it would be hypocritical of me to tell you which they are.
I will give you a clue, however: although it will be in nearly every respect a Wrangler, the name will be changed.

Anyone else have some real information on the 2009s Wranglers or whatever they are going to be called?

Hang_Traitor_Democrats - 09 May 2008 12:11 GMT Yes, two of them. They claim no real changes that they are aware of since they are trying to sell 2008s now and have no interest in having me wait for the 2009s to come out.

The dealership usually has brocures for the new model year that highlight the to the vehicle for that year. I tend not to believe what the sales droids say without some written proof. Most sales droids just tell you what you want to hear.
Seeing as how the Wrangler was just redesigned in 2007 I don't believe you will find any big changes for a while yet. I wish they would bring back the straight six as an option.
Hang_Traitor_Democrats - 09 May 2008 16:42 GMT Not looking for huge changes, but I know the price of gas is forcing some manufacturers to make changes to the engine and transmission to try and squeak out a few more MPGs to make the window sticker look better.
Frankly with a city rating of 16MPG and the highway MPG not all that great, I would think that sales of the Wrangler are way down, but the small dollar rebates on the Wrangler would lead you to think otherwise.

Just an FYI, my ex wife has the Sahara Unlimited 2007, manual transmission, and my step dad has the 2008 Sahara Unlimited with the automatic. Both are four wheel drive. Both are getting 17-19 city, and 23-25 highway. My '87 redone Wrangler with the original junk two barrel and nutter bypass is getting 20 around town, and 26 on the highway so far on the new engine. Ask Mike, he gets similar mileage with one of his rigs.
Plus, I'm driving around like "papaw" right now.

I saw multiple comments that all were similar, hate the mileage, love the vehicle so I wonder, is mileage really that important to most of us?
My GC gets terrible mileage but I don't drive it all that much, I use the much more economical Miata for most of my driving in town....

That's a great point, honestly, mileage doesn't matter to me, what does matter, is big oil is taking advantage of me at the pump. They cite all kinds of reasons why gas is higher, including worldwide demand, the price of oil is raised on speculation of impending disasters here, military coups there, and none of it ever happens. But, they don't drop the price back down after it nothing happens, and then they post record profit after record profit. Profit is what is left over after the bills are paid and the research is funded. Profit is what goes into pockets of big oil executives, and the big oil lobby in Washington, and finally into lawmakers pockets. That is why nothing is being done in Washington other than these pseudo hearings. This, of course, is my opinion, and for the record, this is a bi-partisan let down, not one party or the other. Enter Cheney's super-secret "energy policy" meetings leter that year, the topics of which still haven't been released. Since we're in the last few months of the Adminsitration, and gas prices have increased in 7 1/2 years by 163%, I think it's simple to extrapolate the outcome of those meetings.

In 2001 the average was U$D 28.66.
The average for 2008 is U$D 84.70.
That is an increase of U$D 56.04 /NOT/ U$D 118.32 as you are claiming.
You are off by a mere U$D 62.28 per barrel.

It wasn't, until the fuel prices skyrocketed and it now costs $50 to fill my tank instead of $32. Not that it's a Jeep... but the hubster's F-two-fitty costs about $140 to fill up. Gets a little better mileage, but the fuel costs more.

Because thanks to the regulations our refiners now make the same low sulfur fuel the Europeans require. Rather than the stuff that they could not burn.

Important bit. "The U.S. exported 402,000 barrels of distillate fuel a day in March"
So basically the refineries are producing product for sale overseas, not locally. So we have less supply, so the prices go up. Time to start talking about a tariff for exported fuel.

I recall a local self serve (remember when self service was VERY rare?) gave out free glasses and ice tea pictures when you bought gas, they're worth a bunch of money now!

Last one of the free glasses I ran into was in the late 80's, most were football themed. What is really valuable is the stuff from the early 50s and back to true carnival glass.
I remember when you could get someone else to change your oil and filter for the price of the oil and filter. Plus your oil and tires were checked for the price of the gas. Busted headlights were replaced and adjusted for the price of the light. Wiper blades ditto. Used to work part time at a station in the mid 60's in a small town where this was still available. Pay not that much, but the discount on gas and the opportunity to check out the seat covers while washing their windows made up for it.

Sometimes they were yellow, too.

I remember the time I got diverted into Denver Stapleton by weather one night and had to refuel at the contract terminal (AF jets make Jeep mileage look GOOD - I needed 3600 lbs or so, about 600 gallons). At the time, they gave Green Stamps with the purchase, so I had a real pile by the time I got back home - and had to turn in the stamps to the AF.
I found some old photos when we cleaned the folks house out before we sold it. One was of a couple of us standing in front of a Texaco station in Brownwood, Texas where the sign had regular for 12.9 cents per gallon in the mid '50s before the federal tax was passed. That made the original 4 cents a gallon tax nearly 25% of the cost of a gallon.
My, how times have changed.

Are you sure about the dates? I started driving around 1949 (legally in 1951) and I seem to recall there was federal tax then.

Federal tax began in 1932 apparently.

I must be thinking of the tax Eisenhower got through to pay for the interstate system. Am I engaging in selective memory, or did $0.25 to $0.30 gas persist into the later '60s?
Time for liars, damned liars and statistics: determine the marginal profit per gallon for both the major oil companies and retail sellers now and in 1965 - you might need a log scale to be able to display the current margin on the same graph.

I do know the tax on gas has increased over and over and over...

We took the wholesale price of gas and added our markup, usually 3 cents/gallon on regular, and that's been the profit from the 1980s through as recent as I was in the business or knew anyone who was.

The guy I buy fuel from upcharges 5 cents/gallon and 10 cents/gallon for full serv. The tricky bit is chain stores that adjust charges by location. Go by the highway and the same Shell station charges almost 10c more per gallon than the one a few miles away. Then again there is a truckstop that charges 3c over and is right on the highway. (of course they do much more business filling semis than cars.

My point was from a ROI perspective. Back when, that $.03 (my FIL was getting $.05 from Standard Oil in 65) represents less than 1% of the cost from the truck now where it was closer to 10% in the 60's. That isn't much of a return - one driveoff can make a huge dent in the profits today.

Where I worked it was 4c, with a 2c discount for any local resident or anyone with a gate pass to the local missile base. Essentially paid the rent while the small repairs, oil, other accessories fed the folks who worked there.

You're not. I worked part time at a gas station in Green River Utah during the mid to late 60's and low 30's was the price.

Well, you could buy a brand new MGB sports car for $2650 in mid 65 and a Jag XKE was roughly 5400 USD.

I drive 52 miles round trip...bit of city, but mostly country. Elevation is 504 feet in the city, and 1200 feet at the homefront. I'm squeeking 19-19.5mpg on 87 octane. How is the ex and stepfather squeeking 3-5 mpg over the rated?
Overall, I love the beast. Longer, wider, and higher than my 97XJ, and the 3-piece hardtop is nice consolation to not having the dualtop option. BUT, like the rest, I hate the 3.8LV6. No giddy-up-n-go like the 4L in the XJ :( I'm so used to the lag time of excelleration on the JK, that when I jump in the XJ, it almost feels like I'm going to pop a wheelie! :) Mind you, the XJ has a low 142K miles on it, and still kicking around with my oldest daughter as driver of it after 10 salt belt years plus as my daily drive and weekend off roader! LOL
Eric in NNY 08 JK Stock (my toy) 02 WJ Stock (Wife's toy) 97 XJ 2" lift (oldest daughters toy) used to have 31" swampers but made it too tall for her to climb into without using a milk crate or stool! :)

How is the ex and > stepfather squeeking 3-5 mpg over the rated? I can't answer that one, Eric. Just stating what I know as fact. The things I see right away are 1. They both use 92/93 octane as available, 2. We are at sea level, "Myrtle Beach, SC" 3., they both drive like they're old people, and 4. They both commute to work, non-interstate highway, using cruise control.
