OMG! That is friggin hilarious. Those guys were STUPID! Not to mention they were using one of those BAD tow straps (with the metal hooks on the ends)...tsk tsk tsk
This is a good reason to think twice before helping pull someone out of a snowbank. Although it was stupid to pull it in the direction they did (and therefore none of US would have been in this particular situation in the first place ;-) ), the driver of the car obviously didn't know anything about where to safely attach the strap...and you just don't want to be in the middle of something like this when you're just trying to be a good samaritan. Lawyers could get involved pretty quick!

Bob - 30 Jan 2004 14:52 GMT Oh yes! Absolutely; I always do. However, I always check where the owner attached it, and won't pull them if I don't feel the owner chose an appropriate attachment location. ;-)

Had he went the other way down the road we would not have had such a great video. :)

Roy J - 27 Jan 2004 15:28 GMT The site is off line now, must have run up a bandwidth bill. I didn't get to see it. Boo hoo.
My buddy used to retrieve semi trucks when they went off the road. Try sitting along side the freeway fence after doing 100 yards through the roadside snow bank and 3' of regular snow. You have to be carefull, if you just pull you bend the frame on the rig. Need to unhook the trailer, put 2 lines on the tractor to let you wiggle it out (one line then the other), then pull the trailer our, then hook it all back together. 6 hour job.

Yesterday I got to watch a BIG tow truck tow a bus that came across 6 lanes of traffic over the center median. drop about 6 feet from the road and almost ran through our work building. I don't know how the driver did it, but it came straight across "perpendicular" from the other side of the road. Dang I need to get a digital camera.
