According to some research:

"The chassis serial number is shown on a plate located on the right side of
the dash in front of the passenger seat, or under the front edge of the cowl
above the glove compartment."

I don't remember seeing it in either location, although I'm not sure I
looked up under the cowl very closely.  Assuming I can't locate it there, is
it stamped in the frame anywhere?

A 50's Willy's 2 wd Jeepster?, a Kaiser Jeepster Commando?, an AMC Commando?
Year would help.
The Kaiser has an aluminum plate screwed onto the firewall, 3 inches left of
the master cyl.

I missed that part of your response and just posted the year.  The title of
my thread actually said Willys, but I did forget the year......  I think we
aren't gonna find it, so the buyer will just have to live with it.

I woulda posted over in the AJC newsgroup if it was a Kaiser or AMC.  I go
by co_big_cheese over there if you didn't already know that :-)

Are you going to the Jeepster Jam in Moab?

That's way too far at 8.5 MPG. There will be a Jeepster run at the Rubicon
this summer, I will be doing that one.
I have no idea where the numbers are on an early Jeepster.

Hi Kevin,
On other Willys' it's on the firewall under the hood on passenger
side. Yours is definitely missing:

Usually means it doesn't match the title. They are in about ten
locations on every car, changed from year to year, your Department of
Vehicles knows exactly where yours are. On every Jeep I've done a
restoration one has been at the right front outside frame, puddied over
of course.

What title ;-)

So the buyer will have to loacte it on the frame to get a salvage title?
How will that affect us giving him a bill of sale?

No problem, it's done all the time. When it time register it here
in California we pay a private company a fee of fifty bucks to come out
and verify it, to make sure it doesn't come back stolen.
