I have a t176 that I'm putting in my cj7. When I tilt it up (dana 300
adapter on the floor) the oil leaks out quickly. Is this normal or should I
have the seals replaced?

Yes, if it's leaking from your main shaft's seal. But, there may be
an open hole like this adapter used on a Japanese transmission, that
depends on the transfer case to close it off:

No holes here, just coming out around the main shaft. I'm having the dana
300 re-sealed so I guess I'll have the t176 done at the same time.
