The Millenia was the Amati car. Mazda decided it was more feasible just to
introduce it as a Mazda. Mazda's luxury aspirations went away when Ford
completely took over.

Did Ford actually take over Mazda 100% ?
If I recall, Ford only owns about 25% (or was it 40%) of Mazda.
However, I noticed recently that they put Mazda under Ford flagship
(just like Volvo, Jaguar, etc).
When did Ford actually acquire 100% of Mazda ?

Actually I read their luxury aspirations went away because Mazda wasn't doing
so hot back then and they believed the new Amati line was more than they could
handle. That and stiff competition from Acura, Lexus, Infiniti.

Yeah. The car that was to be the first Amati model ended up
being sold as the Mazda Millenia. It had a "Miller Cycle"
engine, whatever that was. I seem to recall that it had
something to do with overlapping spark timing or something
like that, nothing very radical.
