Checked kiatechinfo.com for manual transmission diagrams and information;
changing or adding oil to the transmission case requires removal of the
speedometer driven gear however to save my soul I can't find or see it (from
the upper motor area, anyway) on the case. There is an electrical connector
in the area shown on the diagram however this should be a mechanical device,
shouldn't it? Electrical schematic didn't show a speedometer circuit that I
could find (cursory look).

Any fast hints amongst the group here to check oil level and add/change?

That would be correct.

No. Most new cars do not have speedometer cables. I don't have a rio,
but on the sephia, the connector(and the drive gear you have to
remove) are behind and below the intake manifold. Usually it's got a
single 10mm nut, access to it is easiest from the passenger side
fender.

Good luck.
