Greetings,
Just an educated guess but is it possible that the chirp you hear at high
RPM's is actually the AC compressor disengaging? I really can't think of
anything else except to keep an eye on the tranny fluid for any signs (or
smells) of burnt fluid.
The dome light seems to be a notorious issue with a question about it posted
not too long ago on this newsgroup. Ours stopped working for a few months
and then unexpectedly began working again for no apparent reason. I believe
it was nothing more than a dirty switch but I honestly couldn't tell you
which one. Also check the function of the dimmer switch for the dash lights
to turn on and off the dome light - it could be the culprit (or not?).
The dirvetrain warranty is 10 years/100,000 miles; the basic warranty is 5
years/60,000 miles; the rust-through warranty is 5 years/100,000 miles; and
the roadside assistance is 5 years. According to the warranty manual from
their website the powertrain warranty is not transferrable for new vehicles,
but you should check with your local dealer to see if the warranty on your
2004 is or not - they may have changed that provision to make it
non-transferrable (or not?). In either case, I'd be a little more cautious
now when you wind-up the RPM's because you may be the one to foot the bill!
Cheers - Jonathan

the domelight problem is probably a diode, i've
seen a few sorento's with similar problems.
