Wotcher chaps, I've got the opportunity to buy a truck cab for about
£200 notes or so, I reckon that'll help the old beast sell if I either
fit it or at least sell it with the landy. It's apparently in good
condition and complete, I'll have a look at it first though.
So what does the hive mind think as to the selling potential of a
truck versus rag top? I'd either sell the truck with both, or put the
truck cab on and sell the rags and hoops on fleabay.

I think I paid £30 for my truck cab....
Rag and sticks always seem to sell well on ebay, so I reckon you'd at
least get your money back. I'd personally value a rag top higher than
a truck cab, but I can see reasons why people would prefer the truck
cab.

perhaps I won't buy one for £200 after all!! I suppose I ought to
have checked first before making up a price.

I too value the rag more than the hard top, I got rid of my hard top
as it was shite compared to the rag top but then I don't have to worry
about thieves. There have been many occasions when I've been glad for
the rag, tall loads such as 19" rack units for example, and during
summer.
A truck cab would at least open up the agricultural market a little
more though with any luck.

It's for a S2, so not entirely comparable I suppose. It's also less
than mint.
Still, it'll be for sale if I ever get the cylinder head back on and
the rag top fitted.

I can sell you one for £200 if you like :)
I also think i paid about £30 for mine. I found that a truck cab wasnt
very practical though as I always seemed to need the space!

In what way? - I can't really see how any Defender/110/90/series.... is
particularly hard to break into.

Last one of those I moved it, slid (on its side, of course) straight into
the back of the 110. Can't remember the U but it's just over 6'.

No it's not, but harder to break into than a soft-top. Throwing a
towel over something to protect it in a public place isn't as good as
locking it in a metal box, even if the locks aren't that good.

Yeah but I carried three of them, upright. Took off the middle hoop
and the canvas and strapped them to the front hoop. I fitted loads
more gear down the sides too.

Yep, it's nice in the summer! Greenlaning sans roof is nice, although
you do need to be very careful about vegetation.

I reckon swb=ragtop, lwb=cab tho' I suppose it depends on what the buyer
really wants it for a lwb would be the choice if I was wanting it for
business but an swb would be my choice for private i.e. offroad type of
stuff and this hot weather I yearn for a ragtop.Nice as a sunroof is being
out in the fresh has it in spades.

Truck cab is probably a better bet in this country. It's perceived to be
more waterproof and more secure. It might even be so :-)
most types wanting a working vehicle aren't after a full ragtop.
as to whether you sell the hood and sticks separately, or modify it into a
load bed hood, is a matter of conjecture. With a load bed canvas it might
be more likely to sell, but then again, I imagine a full LWB hood set for a
110 is realtively rare and might sell well on its own.

I found my canvas to be more waterproof than my metal roof!
Condensation on the metal roof saw to that. A stick-on lining might
solve that though.

The 110 hood set is the same as the 90 hood set, just with the middle
hoop and brace set repeated. A friend picked up the canvas itself for
£20 in good condition.
I'll start calling round the usual haunts to see if I can get a truck
cab for noddy money.

The LROI one is in Durham (mind you the forum search engine is as much use
as a Nissan Micra ) his addy is Andrew.VasahelyiATvirgin.net ( you know

God alone knows how I ended up with the link to the other site must have
been download related funny though I didn't realise the defenders had been
exported to the US I thought the stopped after the NAS 110 due to airbag
issues must be one of a very few.

Personally I keep both a truck cab, full length roof and a rag top,
and change them about as required for the weather/usage. In this
weather it's rag top, kept dissambeled in the rear in case of rain.
Truck cabs can be separated along the back of the roof (although it is
a lot of bolts) and thus can be stored flat, instead of that annoying
L-shape.
