Not heard a dickie bird, may drop him a line me thinks tomorrow.

Those cold calls are classics. I got one today, woke me up at 11.20 after a
night shift, would switch it off but I'm on call.

I could do with a script for those calls, probably along the lines of "We
don't use phones, this is just for emergencies, Do you have an emergency?"
would do.

I could do with ringing some of these a*s*s up at 3.30 am and ask them if
they would like my services :-)

Register them with some USA call service, that would get them woken early
enough! I sorted out the fax callers many moons back. I came into the shop
in the morning to find the 8' length of fax on the floor. I was livid so i
taped it into a loop, dialled their number and pressed send watching it go
on and on and ariston. Best £3 i ever spent on a call.

He vanished with an "I'm going to be ill for a while" message, which
is concerning as I think he's been badly ill before.

I never realised he was in Warwickshire - I was born there, many, many years

Not a bad place - I visit family there whenever I'm in the UK.

A good place in the 50's & 60's. Went back in '86 briefly, hated it - it had all
changed beyond recognition - even the Blue Lias pub I used to work at while a
student had changed (Mother's probably moored in their beer garden. It used to
have a Vampire jet in the car park. The landlord Sandy was an ex fighter pilot)

No plans to visit the Northern Hemisphere again in this lifetime, unless the
Aussie $ gains a bit of value!

Better than the NZ$.  I'm lucky my grandfather left me a few £s so I can
afford to visit occasionally.

We lived there from 70 to 76.  Mind, it's still all changing - Rowington C

Ah, that kind of illness ;-)

ISTR him saying he'd been given the death knell many years ago and had
survived, so I'd been putting x and y together again and making 4.

Rushed???  C'mon now, I live in yorkshire, getting there sometime this
year is seen as a panic.  It really wasn't _that_ bad :-)

> left on Sunday in pain, back in Casualty on Monday....

Nothing to match the pain of an ex-colleague from my days working in
the NHS gloating whilst reminding me of how I used to bollock my
patients for not doing as I'd suggested...  Ho hum...  (whistle)...

>I think he's having difficulty adjusting to thinner lenses on his

It got better, now as the eye improves, the new (interim) specs have
become equally as useless as a chocolate teapot.  Life goes on, and I
can still find my way to the fridge and know instinctively how to
operate the corkscrew ;-)

I can say from experience that to be perfectly balanced you need a pint of
