:-)

My copy of "First Overland - London to Singapore by Landrover" arrived
today... needless to say I'm riveted to the sofa. Thanks to Dave French for
the recommendation my flexible friend finally gave in.

I recall highlighting another book prior to Christmas which I think was
another First Overland... any one know what that one is? I know the chap who
wrote it was local, though I think he did that run in a j33p.

:-D It's the only quiet place I can read at the weekend (101!)

The 'OTHER First Overland' book (in which 2 colonial police officers
drove a Willys Jeep from Singapore to Blackburn in 1957) is called
'First Overland -- Four Wheels & Frontiers', and is by Roy Follows.

And that's all the promotion I'm going to give it, because the title is
a shameless attempt to cash in on the REAL 'First Overland' (as well as
being inaccurate... although they DID do it in the opposite direction,
so I suppose it could be argued that it was the first East-to-West
overland).  I do know that Tim Slessor had a brief (and somewhat firm)
word with the book's publisher about that!

But it does give me the opportunity for a shameless plug for the DVD
based on Antony Barrigton-Brown's colour film footage, which has hardly
been seen since it was broadcast by the BBC in B&W nearly 50 years ago.
The closing stages are in sight, and it should be available within the
next few weeks (once I can sort out details such as NTSC versions for
the American enthusiasts).  More details at
www.teeafit.co.uk/firstoverland.

Count me in on that one.

No pressure I'm on page 65 and it only came through the letter box
yesterday..... and I've not picked it up yet today. :-)
