hardly surprising. depending on what chip you mean. If you mean an
aftermarket performance device, then yes, you might need to disconnect it.

put it on a testbook and get it reset. Theoretically, this is supposed to
happen regularly in the service schedule... I suspect that various dodges
like removing the air filter are just likely to confuse the ECU even
further.
Of course, there's always the favourite "thrash the nuts off it for 5
minutes before testing it."
The other thing that happens is dependant on your tester: run it at less
than full revs.

Best option is to fit very thick carpets !!

Ironically it failed the emissions test twice with the chip disconnected, in
desperation I reconnected it and it passed without a problem!
