Hehe, i find it quiet amusing. I've always been to the "landrover show
at billing" When it was run by LRO, then to the "landrover show at
billing" when it was run by LRE and now i shall be going to the
"landrover show at billing" which happens to be run by LRM.

I want to go to Billing to look at landrovers, because it's near to
me. I don't really give a toss which particular group of people are
organising it this year.

Pity the poor traders. They can't be at both shows so one is going to look
pretty bare....

Sweepstake anyone?

Billing has 'the name'.  My money goes on LRM pulling off the more
successful show.  I reckon all camping will be moved to Richard
Arrowsmiths fields - anyone remember who started all that off? ;-)

considering everyone knows Billing, I would guess that Kelmarsh will
be the bare one....

Be interesting to see what happens. What if both are bare?

it'd serve the silly buggers right.

At a guess, LRE, having fallen out with the Billing people, are out to try
and scupper it, and with luck will catch a cold in the process.

Frankly, from what I've been hearing about Billing recently, I've no real
desire to go there any more.

IME, Eastnor and Malvern have (last 2 years, when I've been to 'em) been
good shows.  Malvern in particular has excellent facilites, and no hassle
that I could detect.

Why not go down the Jeep route, where they have one big show a year,
and then a couple of smaller off roading days?  The current high
number of shows *cannot* be sustained...

I think they will continue but implode due to lack of intrest from
exhibitors.

One show is  not a good idea in my opinion as It's the location that is key
for most people, unless of course you happen to have it in North
Staffordshire which is the centre of the known landrover enthusiast universe
as all will agree ;-)

Good point.  however, having 2 shows within spitting distance of eachother
on the same weekend is plain nuts.

Sounds very much like what happend in the kit car world the mags took
over running the shows, deliberely ran them at the same times,
exhibitors couldn't do both it all went horribly wrong.

I suspect it will all end it tears.

Something similar happened in the air show world, there was a very nice
combined full size and model show at Elvington (where the Hamster had
his prang) which appealed to all the family. Then the childish
modellers fell out with the airfield owners and tried to stage a rival
show a few miles away on the same day!.

Both sides lost out, but the modellers faired far worse as their
traders went to the Nationals at Barkstone heath where they thought
they would get more trade, and most have stayed there every year
since!. Even though the modellers lost a load of money their pride made
them try it again the next year, before they finally admitted defeat
and moved the date. But they haven't really got back to where they
started and would have been far better swallowing their pride and
working with the owners of Elvington.

The bottom line is that the traders will make a cold financial
decision, they'll go to the show they think will get the most
customers, and many will talk to each other so they end up at the same
place to get the biggest crowds. We'll find out where the traders are
going nearer to the date, most of us will follow as a show with no
trade is a dead loss, and the other show will be a financial disaster.

heh.

bollocks to the lot of 'em, I say.  I'll stick with going to Eastnor and
Malvern, anf hopefully more of the usual "crowd" will make it to the latter
next year.
