I've always suspected that they found Brian Hayes by advertising for a
less intelligent version of Jeremy Vine. Not a high standard to start
with, and he misses it by a mile.
The 4x4 argument seems to be on Radio 2 at least twice a month - is it
really the biggest thing facing humanity needing discussion?

The most pressing issues that appear most regularly are 4x4s and those
evil DVD copying types, 10 years in prison is the latest
recommendation for people copying DVDs.
Also another 4x4 article on the beeb website;
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6212990.stm
An article about a study showing a drop in the sales of 4x4s. How's
this for a ridiculous quote;
"Thirsty 4x4 vehicles have lost favour because of higher petrol prices
and opposition from environmental groups.
Yet the study's authors, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and
Traders, said most of the fall was due to two best-selling 4x4 models
being replaced."
So basically, they write an article about a study showing that 4x4
sales have dropped. The study states this is because two best selling
models are due for an update, but the beeb reporter states that it's
because they are "gas-guzzlers" and bean munchers don't like them and
then goes on to write the rest of the article as if the study supports
the reporter's opinion.
At the end of the "article" there is a feedback form with the
following title;
"Are you a former 4x4 driver who has downsized to a more fuel
efficient alternative? Contact us using the form below:"
Yet another example of them reporting on something while at the same
time ignoring the actual thing they are reporting on and just using it
as a prop to present the reporter's opinion.
I'd suggest you use the form and the BBC complaints page to point out
to them that their reporters are using contradictory stories to hang
their own unsupported opinions on.

Well it will be until the cost of running a Mundaneo goes through the roof.
:-) Then the guns will no doubt turn on the Government due to poor hospitals
for all those poor wingers who have bullet wounds in there feet.
It's all tosh, looking at history at the farce of Window Tax... it's just
the latest supposed PC Tax. As for Radio 2 just seems to be full of tossers
who can't aford a TV and watch daytime TV.

What annoys me about all this, they say I drive a gas guzzler (Discovery
Series 2). My wife has a Nissan Almera(52 Reg) 1.8 SVE, Cheap to tax but
bloody expensive on fuel. It does 3-4 mile a gallon less thn my Discovery.
Over a year mine does less harm than hers does.
Rant over.

Did I read today that the increase in fuel duty was expected to reduce
carbon emissions by some amount nobody can get a grip on and raise 2
billion in tax revenues? Talk about have your cake and eat it.
Regardless of whether you agree with replacing Trident, at least I now
have a good idea where the money will come from.

Less people smoking in'it. The money for all these bullets needs to come
from somewhere. It's political bollocks from the likes of Red Ken (Ok to a
degree he has a point) stiring up all this shite to basically save the world
... nah to support the government when they hike taxes. Fortunately one of
the first places to flood will be Red Kens living quarters though everyone
else there has my deepest sympathy.
Fortunately the days where they just come and burn your village have gone.
Now we just get kept in check by wars on terror which ultimatley are of
whose making.
Like it or not in a several million years it's likely the human race will be
just a thing of the past and it makes not a jot that the motor car was ever
invented, but for now it's a convienent way to screw us for money whilst
trying to appear whiter than white, or is that green / brown.
There time would be better spent building more Prisons , giving proper
sentances and getting the Limp lame and lazy frigging burdens of society to
earn there frigging keep.
Note to self - stop drinking wine well at least the stuff thats feeding the
frigging leeches (more tax!).

I reckon the trident replacement is gonna be about 20 billion. They never
admit stuff like how much the farce in Iraq is costing us. I recall a
figure of 9 billion when maggie wanted us to develop trident to replace
polaris, and I find it highly improbable that a replacement now will cost
anything less than twice as much.

That is 2 billion per annum in fuel duty revenue apparently. Some
'expert' on the radio the other day suggested that the total cost would
indeed be about 20 billion over 10 years. Another one today (General
Jackson I think) said that the cost, over the life time of the Trident
system, would amount to about 2 billion per annum, and that he thought
that was not expensive. Well, it isn't if you can magic extra tax out of
folk who have little choice but pay it.

No, it's just one of many convenient distractions from the real issues
that they don't want us to think too hard about, and nicely supports
more indirect taxation which all governments now consider the only way
to pile on the ever increasing tax burden.

It's also blatantly obvious that Jeremy Vine is personaly anti-4x4,
and sadly anything Jeremy doesn't like gets a hammering - impartial
is not a word I associate with him, and he's got worse. Hence I
no longer listen to Radio 2.
By-the-by, is that ginger headed idiot still on after 5 and on
Saturday afternoons? That was the final straw!
