My 300tdi seems to be overheating according to the gauge, but the water is
at the normal temperature, the fan is operating and there are no leaks as I
had a new radiator fitted when the engine was rebuilt.

Can anyone give me an idea of where to look? I'm working on the basis that
either the sender or th gauge is faulty, but which is most likely?

IME the sender is the thing that seems to go first, and its the easiest
to replace !
