Lee_D - 20 May 2008 22:19 GMT Right, there have been rumblings of the next unofficial location in several threads 'bout time we pulled it all together me thinks. Not of course forgetting the site Martyn has kindly set up for all things unnofficial - see sig below.
I think the dates have been established as August bank holiday weekend which rules us out (dammed work getting in the way of my social life again!)but that doesn't mean it shouldn't go on regardless.
Righty O, wheres it going to be then peeps? Keep it here in the Unofficial unofficial thread.
If it's in striking distance of a sensible trip from here we will turn up on the Monday if peeps are up to owt then.

No reason I can think of why we shouldn't have a mid-summer bash too - could even be mid-week (with sufficient notice) which has the benefit of less crowded roads/camp-sites/lanes.

Coincidental how the names of the villages ( once you zoom in ) are reminicent of the names of wines ( esp- the fizzy stuff ) I wonder if a certain motor will be making a clinking sound on the bumps?

on pervious (ToBAGO!)[1] occasions, we've found a pay and play, and gone there on one day, then done other stuff like a brewery tour or go to the beach or something on the other day - if we include Monday morning as well and there are credible lanes, no reason there shouldn't be half-a-day's laning as well.
Good campsite (i.e. one that doesn't complain about muddy landies and barbies and so on (or someone's farm, as per the shakespeare one) are more or less essential.
Personally, oop north is a bit far away, Something in the west midlands area would be good and is an area we've not "done" yet. There's plenty of non-off-road stuff to do in the area, including Blists Hill, a bit further south there's Bulmers Cider, and many other things.
Anyone know for a good pay and play (not just a mudhole, something for the tidy motors as well)? I've got an idea about camping (but I need to consult first) which if it comes off will near Tenbury Wells. However, I reckon there are plenty of campsites.

If you like I could look at Memory Map and plot a few routes based upon what MM says and what the roads/lanes look like? That was all I did for Derbyshire with Mark and Nige and they seemed to like it ... aided by a couple of lanes that Andy already knew.

Ian Rawlings - 21 May 2008 22:06 GMT > I've often questioned the assumption that the Irish are thick. Well, I don't know about thick, but there's an awful lot of religion and fighting out there! Last time I was there, I think the churches outnumbered the houses and the taxi driver decided to take us sharp-suited briefcase-carrying English gents straight from the airport onto an unannounced, very silent, tour around the rough estates with their territorial flags, murals and colour-coded kerbstones. Then while at work up at the Stormont Assembly there was a bomb scare one day and a police raid and IRA spy arrest on another.
Another time I went there I was with an irrepressible drunk Welshman during the height of the rugby season, I think the tables got turned slightly on that trip!

Then while at work up at the Stormont Assembly there was >a bomb scare one day and a police raid and IRA spy arrest on another. I spent a few bits of time in Belfast many years ago.
On one occasion we happened to get booked into 'a certain' hotel. Whilst booking in, the receptionist took great pride in telling us that "this is the most bombed hotel on the planet", along with all of the areas we should avoid. We then got taken out by a couple of locals who worked in the hotel as cleaners and porters. Had an ace time, in 'both' areas - and yes, got some good pics of all the murals (many of which are now protected as works of art - rightfully so IMO).
Religion and Politics has caused more harm than almost anything else, we were into our music, and together we proved that you can have firm faith, and political allegiance, but if your interest in music is firm, and you STFU about Religion and Politics, you'll always find an extended family.
Mind, the place we looked at buying was in County Clare, in ROI :-) (Here, in fact: http://www.101fc.net/eire-2002/cottage.htm)
Ian Rawlings - 21 May 2008 23:43 GMT > I spent a few bits of time in Belfast many years ago. It's a strange place! Never sure if I liked it or not, but hard to really tell when you're there for a week at a time on work and flying home at the weekends.
On the one hand, modern city with all the new flashy stuff, on the other hand, articles on the local news about strip bars being raided on moral grounds and taxi drivers moaning about line dancing being banned due to sexual content. Mind you, when some granny gets a law pushed through to ban S&M sex videos in the UK due to them "encouraging murder", you've got to wonder how far ahead or behind we are.
> On one occasion we happened to get booked into 'a certain' hotel. > Whilst booking in, the receptionist took great pride in telling us > that "this is the most bombed hotel on the planet", along with all of > the areas we should avoid. After reporting to work, we were told that under no circumstances should we use the black cabs, especially if we were going to the Stormont buildings (guess what we took from the airport when we got the free "tour"). Our hotel was fine, can't remember the name but I do remember the cooked breakfast, the finest I've ever had and makes me hungry thinking about it now, in fact I can smell bacon and taste soda bread right now.

Had an ace time, in 'both' areas - and > yes, got some good pics of all the murals (many of which are now > protected as works of art - rightfully so IMO). We didn't go that far, just found out where the "decent" guinness was sold (it's still sh.t compared to warm English ale) and sat there surrounded by tatooed blokes with big dogs. With a drunk welshman, while the rugby was on.

OK, my musical tastes are Rachmaninov, Edgar Varese, Mantronix, LL Cool J, Public Enemy, general dance music, and Motorhead. I can really blend in...
> Mind, the place we looked at buying was in County Clare, in ROI :-) > (Here, in fact: http://www.101fc.net/eire-2002/cottage.htm) All well and good, but where's the barn? My house is far too big for me, and my garage is far too small, I'd love a large warehouse with a flat above it, ideally an ex commercial garage with living accomodation and the vehicle ramps intact ;-)

I am in theory booked out on an off-roading weekend but if that doesn't go through and you're all not more than about 4 pinz hours away then I might make it. On my local club's off-roading outings I tend to end up leading a group so dropping it is hard to do as otherwise it puts more load on the bods who have already worked their arses off to make the weekend work, and that's not a good thing to do!
Mind you I don't even know where Derbyshire is! Is that north, south, east or west? Of the country, not of me..

Just looked. Derby itself is about 40 miles north of Brum, and Derbyshire extends further than that - Matlock, for example, is a fair bit further and AFAIK is also in Derbyshire.
It's not silly-far from here - not as bad as Yorkshire.
