whey hey, look at me getting all technical......

ive stripped my series 3 suffix D gearbox and the mainshaft bearing
that came off was stamped with 4 circles, i take it this is to denote
the bearing is manufactured to extremely tight tolerances,

the new bearing which is a brit part has C3 stamped on. which i take
it would relate to 3 circles.

so am i putting an inferior bearing back in, should i get a C4 bearing
or doesnt it matter.

hope someone can help me before tommorow as i cant wait to re-build it
and stick it in to see if it works ok.

knowing my luck the transfere box will be buggerd.

TIA

C3 is the amount of clearance inside the bearing - C3 is "more than
standard" and is normal for gearbox bearings.

but my question was, the one i took out was c4 ( four circles stamped
on it ) and the replacement is c3,

will this be a problem?

Shouldn't be - I generally use C3 bearings in gearboxes.

last question for now,

the 3rd 4th synchro has slotted teeth on the inside, these teeth go
a;ll the way to one end and stop about 1/4/of an inch or less at the
other, which way does it go on the shaft,?

cheers

The end with the recessed splines goes towards the 3rd gear. This end
also has thicker teeth on the outside than the other end.
