Hi all,

Off roading with Series 3 88 inch Y reg 1983 Petrol 2.25

Well I was driving along at a steady 20 mile sper hour on the beach when
suddenly I hit a dip, well it was a whack and the land rover jumped a few
inches into the air on the front wheels.

What worries me is that the steering wheel doesn't feel right, let me
explain it is the steering wheel vanes onthe steering wheel. going straight
ahead they are no longer straight and it is tilte dot one side, it doesnt
wander or steer funny. I have checked all the sterring stuff for bending,
coudl I have bent the chassis or even knocked out the tracking badly??

Sounds like a bent trackrod or drag link to me. Get the tracking
checked, it'll probably be out. If it's Ok, then you'll have to check
the two draglinks, the Manual has the correct geometrical setup.

Get someone to turn the steering wheel for you while you have a look
at all the moving bits and see what theyre doing (and if its the
correct thing!). Does sound like something bent or broken.

Most likely is a bent track rod or one of the drag links - but it could be
that the splines on the steering relay are worn and have jumped one tooth -
this would mean the pinch bolt is loose or broken or rusted nearly through.
