I took a 300tdi auto disco for a test drive yesterday.
I was not impressed, I can thrash more performance out of my 2.5 n/a.

Now I need to get my mitts on a V8 auto and hope that impresses me,
'cos if it doesn't I'll keep my 1984 110 csw and shove a new engine
into it instead.

Regards.
Mark.

I reckon you'll find a 3.9 auto impresses.

was the TDi auto set up and running right, though?

I've got considerably livelier acceleration from ours with a bit of tweaking
(manual, mind) and the autobox can have it's kickdown messed with to hold
the low gears longer, if it's upshifting too soon and dropping it off the
turbo boost.

Must have been summit up with it! cant see a standard NA coming close to the
300Tdi even in auto guise.

and if urea not impressed with the 3.9 - then you need a TV!!!

My standard 300Tdi kept up with Tad's no bother after I "de-chatted" it!

I'm sure they would if you were holding the folding.
I've seen an overfinch'd defender.

I did run it from cold mind so that may have something to do with it,
and I was poking with the kickdown trying to wring something out of
it, the bugger would rev to 4k but the acceleration didn't come close
to the effort shown by the engine.

I'm standing by for a 3.9, would like to try auto and manual, though
auto is my preferance at the moment.

heh.  I've been known not to on mine, when it wasn't working all that well,
and then be puzzled by the new vibration that had appeared.

seriously, though, if it wouldn't go any better than a 110 NAD then it was
either well off-tune or shagged.
