Austin Shackles. www.ddol-las.net my opinions are just that
Once, when the secrets of science were the jealously guarded property of
a small priesthood, the common man had no hope of mastering their arcane
complexities. Years of study in musty classrooms were prerequisite to
obtaining even a dim, incoherent knowledge of science.
Today, all that has changed: a dim, incoherent knowledge of science is
available to anyone. - Tom Weller, Science Made Stupid, 1986

you're getting tempted, aren't you...
I still fancy a Zil. Mind, dunno if I could fit round the lanes I go around
on the school run, but then again, would it matter?

When you've got something like that, other people have to move out of
your way or else.

Less original than Trigger's broom IMO and interesting how you would explain
it to the rozzers after a bump

Partly, also please remember that we're going into the biggest
recession our economy has ever seen and some people have realised this
and are reigning in.
The truth is that those who live on credit cards are going to be
totally f.cked within 12 months, those who have re-mortgaged their
houses to "buy, buy, buy" also equally f.cked when they find out that
the value isn't what they thought. Oil prices will not go down much,
everything else will go up, America is imploding, China buys
everything (wanna know why scrap has become profitable again?) and
Iraq has neigh bankrupt all of UK-US...
Give it 5 years and 101s will be double their current value for those
who still have any degree of equity to buy/own them. Many, I reckon,
will be scrapped or converted in the interim.
I sincerely hope that someone will quote this post back to me in 5
years time and prove I was wrong...

I think your timescale is wrong, but your analysis is utterly spot
on...
We are heading to a point where Blair has to hand over in about 3
years (if he makes it that far) and will do anything to 'take his
place in history'. If that means buying the love of the public, so be
it.
Likewise, Brown wants to be PM and a depression will not help his
cause, so again the inevitable will be delayed using whatever means
necessary. He's been doing it for a few years already and nobody
seems to have noticed yet.
OTOH, the housing market seems to be in a very strange state. Prices
are not falling as fast as they should - it seems that people are
simply not able to sell at the actual value and houses just aren't
selling. I still think a complete collapse is inevitable, but I
thought that a year ago.

He's been doing it quite effectivly for the past 4 or 5 years by
pumping billions into the state sector to fund a massive expansion of
jobs on the state purse, thus artificially skewing the labour market.
It won't last.
