All of a sudden while driving my SUV, the dial reads 3000 RPM when I am
going 60 MPH, and it reaches 4000 RPM at 70 MPH.  The transmission does not
shift into overdrive.  Had anybody experience the same problem?

do you have any check engine lights on or does the O/D off light flash at
you? if so that means there is a code in the ecu and needs to be tended to..

Right now the check engine light is on... It is for a high rich content fuel
on a piston.  The O/D light off works properly: the light goes on and off if
I press the button in the shift handle.

this problem sounds electrical to me as if the trans is not getting the
command to shift into 4th gear.i get these kind of headaches handed to me
all the time at the transmission shop i work at.i suggest you have the car
scanned at a local transmission shop because a no 4th gear situation also
means a no lock up condition which means you will overheat your transmission
in a very short time causing major failure.this could also be a ecu problem
the cars computer may have a burnt capacitor which is repairable by any
electronics repair shop... just my thoughts. Ken 25 yr ase certified

Hi Jose,
I have the 1999 RX 300 and my vehicle is currently in a Transmission shop
in need of a Trans. However, only if your problem is electronic will the
chk engine light come on.My light never came on, yet my vehicle would take
off in second gear. This is my 3rd Lexus and it will be my last, as my
vehicle is only 4k out of warranty and lexus won't do anything or stand
behind there product. My issue became a mechanical defect. The planetary
gear came apart because of an internal plastic clip. Your Transmission is
warrantied for 7 years, 70k...If you do need a transmission Lexus is
actually the least inexpensive on the part. I was shocked about that...Good
luck.Any questions let me know.As my family has owned auto repair my whole
life and if I can help you with questions I will
