I* have read the manual 3-5 times and follow instructions exactly, but still
the garage doors will not program, even though it does all the things it
says in the manual. Such as wait until the light blink quickly after holding
the 2 outer buttons, then holding the remote garage opener and activate it
within a few millimeters (also tried a few centimeters) from the first
button on the garage door opener on the Lexus ES300.

It will blink after a while rapidly (just the way the manual says) but
afterwards it still will not close the garage door from the Lexus.

It did work before and I wanted to program also for the second garage door
and deleted all previous programming first (as the manual recommends).

But after this procedure (and I tried that also a number of times) it just
will not re-program for me.

Anyone else had this problem or know the answer to success?

Check you garage door opener and see if it uses rolling codes.  If it
does there is a 'learn' button on the door operator that now needs to
set to allow your car to control the door.

No, that is not the case. The doors both use GENIE. the latter only 1 year
old, the first about 10 years old. It is this one I am trying to program,
and it WAS programmed before. Yet I cannot succeed.

You may want to check Johnson Controls Home Link web page.  There is a
list of compatible products and good directions.
