The dealer charges around $200.00 for a new key.

The RX 300 key is one of those integrated devices where the door lock button
etc are a part of the key.  My wife's key also fell apart in her purse when
the car was barely 2 years old.  I found out then that Lexus was the only
option to buy a new key --  at $200.00 not including programming and tax.

Must be one of those dealership profit making designs that Lexus is
becoming famous for.

BTW, I now make it a practice to always get the Lexus dealer to throw in
2 or 3 extra "master" keys when I buy a new car.  They are more than
willing to do this at no charge then.  Especially when I point out that
the failure of their 'high tech' keys is a well known problem.

I made an issue of it when my wife's broke -- they reluctantly replaced it
at no charge as a courtesy.  But, the keys are not under warranty.
