I think I can speak for all Lexus owners when I say that I really wish
I'd bought a Chevy Malibu instead.

How VW can be on the list when nearly every person I know that's owned
one has complained about it's horrible reliability is beyond me.
W. Wells - 23 May 2008 14:55 GMT
I guess it is just a matter of opinion. I personally would not swap my Lexus
for any of those on the list.

Sounds like a great idea.

Is anyone out there interested in buying my (slightly used) LS600hL?  It's a
pretty nice car, but I have to agree with Dave that the Malibu has C&D's
endorsement, and so it must be a better choice.  Frankly, I'm embarassed to
be driving something as second class as my LS600 obviously is, so hopefully
someone out there will be kind enough to take this pig off my hands.  Any
takers?

Giga,  I can give you the same offer I gave Mr. McBrue to take his miserable
LS off his hands.  I offered him a 1998 Ford Escort 30K perfectly maintained
and driven by a little old lady [ my Mom ] and offered to deliver it to him
to make the exchange anywhere in the USA.  It should be worth even more to
him now as it is very good on gas.  I will also make this offer to any ES
Piston Slap owners.  BTW I have a 2003 ES with no piston slap or trans lag.
Unlike the smuck I work with who's 2003 C-Class has been in the shop six
times since he bought it.  He still insists Mercedes  is a better car.  It
goes to show you that sometimes perception is everything.

Sold!  A Ford is a clearly superior vehicle seeing as it's a US based
manufacturer.  In fact, I should probably throw in some cash on top of the
deal so I don't take advantage of your generosity.  Thanks for bailing me
out of my stupid decision to go with the "dolled up Toyota"!

Who in their right mind would buy a Lexus 600 hybrid?

Ya got me Goober!  Who would?  Only a MORON clearly!  The car's such a piece
of crap, it's hard to believe.  And the price?  Outrageous!

Oh.  Wait a minute.  I bought one.

Hmmm... perhaps someone who values high end technology, great customer
service, and a car that's pretty much flawless might buy one.

Or then again, maybe not?

Paul McCartney has one, and he seems somewhat successful.

And way more of both than you do.
GIga - 27 May 2008 00:13 GMT
Once again, a fine example of unarmed dueling idiots.  Trust me when I say I
would not trade my LS600 for anything (until the LS800 of course).  I've had
8 different LS models, and this one is head and shoulders above all of them
(including my '04 LS430 Ultra).  Better ride, quieter, MUCH better
performance, equivalent fuel economy, better sound (probably related to the
acoustic envelope and/or increased deadening materials), better bluetooth
phone, better nav system, better room (especially in the back)... you get
the picture.  The only drawback I can find is the trunk space (they had to
put the batteries somewhere I suppose), but even though it's smallER, it's
still quite adequate for my needs.

But I know how unpopular it is with McJerk-off, Long Dong, and apparently
quite a few others to say nice things about Lexus, so I'll try to restrain
myself.

Perhaps it's just jealousy?

Nahhhhhh........  couldn't be.........

wow what a clever and witty response, it make one wonder why a man
like you who possess such great intellect is wasting his time with all
the unworthy people here

Dave -- Just noticed the slight modification to Long Dong's e-mail address
below.

Priceless!

keep in mind that automakers probably pay big bucks to get on this list.

Perhaps, but I would think that if that ever became general
knowledge(beyond just allegation), it would be a major
scandal. At least in the automotive circle(s).

Obviously, I don't know. But, I don't think C&D would
jeopardize a reputation that they'd spent years/decades
to build, by selling their "Best Cars" slots.

They probably wouldn't sell a spot, but if comes down to a choice between a
couple of worthy contenders I bet the one that spends the most advertising
in C&D wins!

Maybe, let's see what they say....

I've CC'd one of their contact addresses. Perhaps they'll
provide a clarification.

For the C&D convenience, the complete thread here is

Maybe not making the list is why Lexus 2008 *car* sales have been
*double-digit* downhill?

Jan 2008   Down 17.7%
Feb 2008   Down 13.2%
Mar 2008   Down 11.6%
April 2008  Down 22.1%

as a 2002 ES300 owner, I can understand the exclusion...I'm just waitng for
the day this transmission falls out the bottom, after all the hard shifting
and hunting that it has done in its lifetime...

Mind you, I've stopped recommending the ES even for those who wanted a
dolled-up Camry because of cheesy powertrains. (Some owners don't
realize that ES is basically a Camry with different sheet metals.)

The newer Toyota U-series transmissions unfortunately aren't the best
on the lot. The preferred transmissions these days are the Borg Warner
Direct Shift Gearbox designs (Direkt Schalt Getriebe -- Audi and
Porsche are working on their own versions, like the Porsche Doppel
Kupplungs). These are fuel efficient, high performance transmissions
allowing excellent manual controls -- upshifts in as little as 8 ms,
compared to the Toyota/Aisin clunkers (0.1 sec shifts).

I'll alert the media.
