Hi all,
im in need of a little help.
after returning from vacation recently, only to find
that the wifes is300 had been hit by another car while
in an airport car park.
the damage is to the offside bumper.  it has not pooped on its lugs.
to be honest it is more of an exchange of
paint.
but quite noticable all the same.
ever since then the warning light for the headlight leveling system is on.
as there is no  manual control for this i am curious as to what might be
wrong.
ie, where is the sensor for this located?
is it posible that it could have been damaged with such a slight
frontal impact?
would a dislodged wire cause the warning light to show?

from what i can see the light are not bouncing, allthough i have not had the
chance to carry a heavy load
to see if they adjust or not.

any pointers would be a great help.

many thanks.

When you start the car, the headlight leveling motors do a quick
self-check - you may have noticed that the headlights seem to dip and come
back up when you first start the car.  If the car fails the self-check, you
will get a warning light on the instrument panel.

I'm not sure of the location of the sensors, but they are probably on the
headlight assembly.  When you look down at the top of the headlight assembly
with the hood (bonnet?) open, you should see what looks like spirit levels,
which are used to set the proper headlight aim.  Look for any cut or damaged
wiring.

hi all (again).
thanks for the assistance Ray.
after further observations i can say that the leveling works fine.
allthough the self-check seams to occur when the lights are swithched on.
but the waning light will come on even if the lights are not being used.
(about 10 soconds after engine startup)
there is no obvious breakage in the wiring that i can see & all the
multiplugs in
the area of the light assembly's are sitting true.
i begining to think it might be a relay that has gone bad.
any more ideas would be a great help, as the wifes starting to moan.
(bless her little heart).  lol.
regards.

If no obvious damage or misalignment is visible, the next step is to take
the car to the dealer to have the trouble codes scanned.  With the car
parked on level ground, are the bubbles in the spirit levels centered?
