Has anyone tried this chip in their Miata

For approx. $150 - with software and a PC cable - Essentially it logs all
the messages (up to 300 hrs) from the OBD connector under the dash - you can
also monitor up to 4 processes... looks interesting but I'd like to hear
from someone who has used one.

I have a carchip, but haven't tossed it in the Miata yet... I'll try it out
this week and report back.

The carchip itself is pretty slick. it logs all sorts of performance /
driving data, and also allows some limited scantool functionality (you can
read codes, and reset the MIL)

I used mine primarily to track my teenager's driving habits..... It plots
speeds, max speeds, panic stops, hard accels, etc... GREAT little tool for
that !

Sears sells the model with less memory for $99.00 ( which is all you need).
I found mine on ebay for $50.00 brand new!

Gee, if I am unfortunate enough to get into an accident, at least
I will be fortunate enough to have the police able to figure out
at what speed I went into the curve.

Or, I will be fortunate enough to for the lawyers to figure out at
what speed I was going, while the kids in the 1960's rust bucket
were going the speed limit, according to their statement.

I don't know how the carchip speed deal will hold up, but having the
police figure out speed etc. is a crapshoot.

Figuring out speed from rpm is fairly trivial. Of course, in a
modern car it does not make much of a difference, since the
airbag system saves all that information for the police anyway,
assuming the airbags went off. When this Montana or whatever
politician went through a stop sign with 70 mph in a 55 mph
speed zone and killed a cyclist, there was no denying the speed:
just check the airbag system. Not that it probably would have
much of a difference in that case, of course.

Well, unless you TELL the cops it's there, then they wouldn't know to look
for it (or probably even how to d/l it).

Even still. it just plugs into the OBD2 connector so it would be EZ enough
to unplug and toss in the glovebox if you were concerned!

ALSO it could work the other way to prove that you WERE doing the speed
limit when the other jag0ff T-boned you :)

Like I said earlier... I used mine mostly to spy on my teen :)
