Need to replace the original Yokohama tyres as they are getting worn out.
Someone said other makes of tyre may upset the handling.

Could this be true? Have just had a quote for some Dunlop's.

Toyo Proxes T1-S. Awsome tire for the Miata.

No. There may be very minor variations in handling due to slight
profile and tread width differences in tires of the exact same size
from different manufacturers, but they'll all work fine for the
street.

not only will they work fine 'for the street' anyone who said that had to
either be screwing with you or trying, in some twisted way, to keep you from
getting some overly heavy tire. Mazda has been cautious to keep tire weights
down on the miata.

Go to miata.net and you can read tire reviews to your hearts content. Bottom
line seems to be Toyo Proxes T1s is the best compromise that includes both
excellent wet and dry grip with excellent ride characteristics. Down side is
that they have been relatively expensive compared to other tires that have a
bit more of a trade-off in thier ride / handling ratio.

I'm quite happy with my Bridgestone 'Eager' tires, pretty cheap, high
treadwear rating, great ride and plenty of grip in wet and dry with good
breakaway characteristics. I've religated the Falken Azenis to 'autocross
only' use (great grip, poor ride quality)

Good luck
Chris

I just replaced my original Yokohamas with Yokohama Avid H4S tires (the
original series is no longer available), based on dealer recommendation.

My main concerns:
Handling
Increase in wear over original
Increase in road noise over original

So far completely happy with handling and (lack of) road noise compared
to originals.  Time will tell about wear rate but I would expect it to
be close to the same as originals which I was satified with.

Many tire makers are getting away from road hazard warranty - mine still
had that!
